Welcome to Real TV Films, I'm David Kid, your host, here with Troy Brokovich and Chris
Rebuck of the Action Sports Series at the San Diego Film Festival.
So guys, tell me, how did you get involved in the San Diego Film Festival with your film?
Well, the chairman of the festival heard our idea.
Wally?
Wally, and basically he said, let's do it.
And we're like, let's do it.
And so we went for it.
And it's something that Southern California doesn't have yet, an Action Sports Film Festival.
And so we're happy to be the first ones to bring it here.
So you're opening the doors for a lot of people who, you're the first to do this in the Action
Sports.
So you're opening the doors for a lot of other kids or people who want to.
There are a couple other film festivals out there, but not in California that encompasses
all of it.
And our goal is to help these films that are getting to a higher caliber, cross the threshold
into the mainstream.
Oh, I like that, threshold.
So tell me, Chris, tell me about your involvement in this.
Well, I've got to give Matt props to Troy because he did a whole lot of the work.
We pulled it together in just a few weeks.
We really only pitched the idea earlier this summer.
And Wally really grabbed onto it.
Robin got involved.
And then they said, let's do it.
And they were stoked because we helped them out by coordinating a lot of the stuff for
them and bringing a couple of films that are really good films for San Diego Film Festival
in the area and the vibe of what we're going for.
So tell me, what Action Sports did you guys film?
We've got a surfing, a snowboarding movie, a mountain biking movie, and a base jumping
movie.
Chris, are you guys extreme athletes?
I don't know if you can say extreme, but we're athletes in our own right.
But it's really about Clay Marzo, the surfer we've got who did the film, it's airing tomorrow.
Tara DeKitas is going to be here tomorrow and she's the pro snowboarder chic.
It's like, these are the athletes who are being featured in these documentaries and
these biopics that have inspired millions of people.
And it's special to be able to share inspirational stories to us, to people who might not be
able to get that experience.
When you're filming, do you do the sports with them as you're filming?
Actually that's one of the coolest things about Action Sports filmmaking is that the
actual filmmaking element is extreme in itself.
And a lot of the filmmakers, the DPs, are putting themselves in super dangerous gnarly
positions just to get the shot.
And it's like, we respect that as much as the athletes and we want to honor that.
And personally, yeah, I want to be doing it and hopefully I'll get some work out of this.
