I'm Nixon Godfrey Katavira, I came from Lugazi to join YWAM after my DTS in 2007 because
I joined YWAM early 2008, thus I've been here for the two years almost, so that's where I came
from Lugazi to join YWAM. I became a Christian right from, because like I joined, I mean becoming
a Christian, I grew in a Christian environment, thus I was under an organization which was taking
care of me, that's Compassion International, the payment fees and all that, so I grew up in the
church, Pentecostal Church, which was running this ministry because Compassion International was
under it, so I grew up in this environment, that's how I got to know Christ, I involved in many
things at church right from Sunday school, though my mom was not a Christian yet, but then with time
she saw what God was doing in my life, she had no hope of my education to high school and then
when she saw that I reached high school, then she glorified God and then she received Christ as
well after seeing the testimony that came out of my submission to Christ. I started music having
that passion in 2005, I was in primary five when I studied music, then in 2007 I was completing my
primary seven, then that's when I started writing songs, so I came on singing up to death and my
like, it was hard for me to come up because like when you're an upcoming gospel artist or any artist
it's really hard, so I got that desire within me and my prayer was God if you really bless me then
I'll be a help to the young people who have the same problem and have really the talent, so I
started a ministry in Mugazi, that was youth ministry and I had five other youth, we could work
together, visiting schools, organizing conferences and a lot of stuff, now as I went on with the
ministry, I felt within me that I had to join a Bible school, so I tried, I applied several Bible
schools but I could not go through, then till when I talked to one of the leaders in church is my
spiritual dad, I told him about my desire to join a Bible school and because he knew the ministry
I was doing, I was running about the youth ministry, he thought why one was the best training
area for me, so that's how I ended up coming to Waiwan and the Saturday gospel mix is giving an
opportunity to the youth to try out their talents, to do, we allow them to do mistakes because through
mistakes that's when they improve and then under this we also started a small recording studio
just to help them grow up and every Saturday youth come, they try their talents, we take them to
schools, they really do sing and we really realize that they have a talent, I also came with a few
equipments like for recording and God has enabled me like to be of help to them recording a few
songs and with the little skills I've been able to do with them little video music videos just to
encourage them, it's not really professional but again encouragement to them and I've really seen
God really taking us to another level and we believe that God is really reaching us somewhere
with these young men and young young ladies, so every Saturday in the Saturday gospel mix
they come at the center, we disciple them because it's not all about music, it's not only music,
what we have to put in them is music, it's not just entertainment but it's a ministry
communicating to the audience about salvation and leading two people to salvation, so
we encourage them and we're talking to their lives.
Gospel music in Uganda has been known like so, people have been known like
putting effort in it and even like the upcoming gospel artists have been really
not having an opportunity to reach where they want to reach because of lack of opportunities,
lack of people who are going to encourage him, lack of support and all that but then it is on my
heart I feel that a desire in my heart and it's my prayer that when God, as time goes on my dream
is to start a major major center whereby we shall have a recording studio, a video recording, a video
filming or filming industry within where we can edit videos for them, music, I mean I edit songs
for them and also we shall have like several things that shall encourage them to go on with
their talents, so in this major center that we believe God will grant us the opportunities to
go on with it, we believe that the youth will really benefit out of it.
