We're all first class joiners here. We all love our jobs. This is my 49th year. I've
been here 26 years and there's over 200 years experience here in this workshop.
We're known for quality of work and reliability and I think integrity and all that we seek to do.
A lot of the joinery is handmade although we do have a certain machinery to help us along the way.
There's no conveyor belt line, there's no mass produced items. It is pretty much your basic tools.
FGDLA started with my grandpa back in 1938. He lived at the property called Grasmere which is
where the workshops are based still to this day and he was very good at what he did and had an
excellent reputation. I think we work here slightly different to other places that we do
actually get a bit of wood ourselves. There's not actually a machinist. We actually do everything
ourselves from start to finish. There's a lot of pride that goes into actually your job.
It's really important for us that people are completely satisfied with the product that they're
receiving and for us that means in no way shape or form cutting corners. You get the full package
of with a dorm frame. You get all the seals, the glass now is included in it and then when
it goes out we've got people who fit it and know what we expect. The main thrust of the
business has been architectural joinery for many years. A number of people have asked us to create
kitchens and furniture for them and that's an area of the business that's really started to
develop and we're excited for the future about that whole area. We don't have a showroom but
we're able to take people to kitchens that we've completed. They get the opportunity to talk to
the clients about that and to see first-hand a kitchen in operation in someone's actual home.
I love the detail in what we do and what we're involved in crafting pieces for people.
I love the joy that it brings to people when they see their finished article. When they see the final
product in place it gives you immense pride to think well I made that somebody else didn't that was me.
