I wish that there were more than 24 hours in the day Even if there were 40 more
I wouldn't sleep a minute by the way Hey guys Patrick Smith from aerometer pros.com
We're at NAB 2014 right here inside of the red booth
What I want to do is tell you guys a little bit about the company and what we do
My passion has always been to film and shoot in 5k flying the red epic cameras
We're one of the first to be able to accomplish this so pushing the envelope and creating copters
and stabilized gimbal systems has been our task and really what we love to do
So if you guys go to the website at aerometer pros.com you'll see quite a few different copters
ranging from little small ones that fly the GoPro all the way up to our more professional line
that focus on flying the red epic and red dragon. Today I want to show you something that we've
all kind of been waiting for and that's a confident powerful handheld gimbal that'll
support and perform with the red epic on it. I really feel that that gimbal finally came to
market and has been released by DGI. It's called the Ronin so we're going to take that outside
the day and really put it to a test and see what it can do. So let's go outside and we'll power this
baby up. Hey guys Patrick Smith and Austin White from aerometer pros.com. We're out here in Las
Vegas for the NAB show and we have the brand new Ronin gimbal and our carbon dragon on it.
We're going to be taking it out today for a test spin and doing a little review and showing you
what this camera is capable of. It's one thing you know that when you're working with these
handheld gimbals when we're on set the downtime from switching out lenses or switching out cameras
can really be a pain. If you guys have worked with it sometimes it can take like literally 45 minutes
to an hour. With this Ronin gimbal I was able to go out from my standard dragon and we threw the
carbon dragon on it and within seven minutes I had the camera perfectly balanced and we were shooting
straight away. These are quick release latches so that we can trim it and balance it perfectly. We
can go up and down left to right and then you see down here on the bottom we can go forward and back
so this gives us the ability and freedom to really balance any style of camera.
One of the biggest things that I really like about this new gimbal is the batteries built in.
We can quickly take this out and charge it into any plug outlet. It gives us our power indicator
and the runtime on this is four hours so you don't have to constantly be running back and
forth and charging these things. You download the app to your smartphone device and you hit an
auto calibrate button. It did all the calibration and the tuning for us. From there we were able
to tune it for speed if you wanted to ramp faster or slower. If you wanted to pan quicker we were
able to do that with a simple touch of a button. The application makes instant right changes.
A lot of times we used to use these types of gimbals and you'd have to plug it into your computer
do the changes, hit right, repower it up. This is on the fly guy so we're able to immediately
make the change we want and put it into action. If it's too fast or too slow you don't have to
go through that long lengthy process just simply turn on the app and make the changes instantly.
Operations, how do we control this gimbal? Right now he's in follow mode so it's going
to sense how he moves the camera. If he starts twisting it the camera will flow with them as
he turns and then he can also pan up and down. It'll sense that. He can actually flip the thing
all the way upside down if you wanted to. Shoot backwards over the head, spin it around, flip
it back down Austin. So that's follow me mode. Now the second mode is the finished unit is going
to have a thumb button right here. With the thumb button we will be able to control the pan and
ramp it up a lot faster. So if we had to do like a quick turnaround we could do a quick 180 just
by using the thumb. The third one is it comes with its own radio system. The camera operator or
second operator will be able to control the gimbal themselves using the handheld transmitter.
That gives you the freedom to frame up some shots and lets the camera operator that fly the gimbal
and do his own movements without having to stress about where he wants to point and stuff like that.
Okay for you guys who've been familiar with the DJI product lines you know that they've
been leading the technology especially when it comes to gimbal systems on the copters.
Well if you thought that was nice they've taken a completely different setup. They have a whole
new sensor built in. The motors are completely different. The speed and the intensity that
this system delivers is just right on point. Nothing comes close to being dialed in the way
the Ronin is. One thing you guys might notice if you've ever tuned some gimbals like I have
sometimes the gimbal would just go bonkers and twitch and stuff and we'd find that it was just
the little force coming from this cable. With this you notice it doesn't affect it at all.
This is robust. This is built to be on set driven hard and capturing footage.
One of the other issues you had is video downlink. You have an SD but DPs and producers are constantly
wanting an HD downlink. If you're familiar with the new system the DJI light bridge we have an
interface right here so we're going to be able to quickly and easily get our HD downlink straight
out of the camera system and then go straight into the light bridge. So now we have HD feed.
We're not worrying about cables all hanging around. Things are getting tangled up and stuff like that
and you notice how clean the system is. I mean just look at it. This is built to be on set. You
know I said it again it's built to be driven hard but you just simply look at it and it's robust.
It's meant to be used. We know you're going to be bouncing this thing. It's going to be getting
manhandled. You're going to drop it and stuff like that so it's built to take a beating.
Next thing I want to talk about guys is the application. I mentioned it being very easy.
You can download it to any smartphone and now we're going to have the tools right here accessible
in the palm of our hand so we can make adjustments on the fly. It's going to connect to the gimbal
by bluetooth. We'll pull up the standard menu and you'll see the different options right here.
The first one is the motor. We have stiffness and trim on all three axes so we can make some
different adjustments to smooth it out and give you some different feel of the gimbal in your hands.
Next thing we'll go to is the follow. This is when we're in follow mode. You can adjust the speed
so like if you want to do a really quick pan or you want to go forward and back you can adjust
the speed of that and then we have the window. The window is kind of like a dead band so if you
want it to kind of pause or give you a cushion as you're walking with it we could adjust that in
the window right there. One thing I like is that it makes instant changes so we don't have to plug
it in or unplug it or write. It's on the fly through bluetooth and we can make and test the changes
right here. All right guys was that awesome or what? We just did a test spin on the gimbal and
now we're right back here in the red booth with a couple of nice ladies with us. We want to talk
a little bit about the deal. First let's cover support. We're the number one DJI dealer in America
when it comes to professional line so you're going to get the support on the gimbal system as
soon as it releases. We're also have a great relationship with red so we're not only going
to offer you the discount on the gimbal but we're also going to offer anyone who wants a carbon
dragon with this. We can get you five percent off but more importantly you're not going to have to
wait. As soon as your gimbal arrives your dragon will be available for it too. Keep checking up on
our website follow us make sure you get all the information. We'll keep you guys up to speed
as soon as you start rolling out. Bye bye ladies.
