Hi, this is Megan Perry. I'm a former Division I college basketball player and Ivy League
champion for Cornell University. I'm very much so still ingrained in sports as a former
WNBA executive at Turn To Sports Broadcaster. I'm excited to share my journey in sports
with you and my latest ventures from the broadcast booth.
Turnovers. Turnovers have been huge. For Boston College, they have 20 turnovers in the first half, Joe. That is more than they average in the entire game. This game has been messy, it has been ugly for both sides, but I think in the second half it's going to be about who's able to sort out those things, who's able to work through those turnovers and take care of the ball.
Coming off a great game against Maine. Last year went for 20, 18 and 13 against Florida State.
Well, Adrienne Miley has really come alive of late over her past three games. She's averaging 19 points per game and shooting a healthy 70% from the field. So Coach Meyer and her teammates are definitely going to listen to her to set the tone.
There's a reason why the hurricanes have been everywhere.
Well, the hurricanes have been very active when the defense have been and that's something they've prided themselves in all season long. You'll see Kiki Harris gets it started. Very active hands, thinking for the ball, getting the ball out in transition.
And solid post play over Virginia's defense. Their scoring defense is ranked second in the ACC and they are ranked 11th nationally. They hold teams to about 54.6 points per game.
Well, this has been a very competitive first half and I think it speaks to some of the parity that's in the ACC this season. I've been most impressed by Miami's efforts, how they responded in the first half. They were down early, but they used their defense intensity to create offense and crawl back into this game.
They like to shoot the three ball.
Absolutely. I think that three ball could be the difference in this game. For Texas Tech, the Lady Raiders, we're saying Caldwell has been more than hot behind the three point line. She's been shooting lights out and I think for Miami it's going to be the same thing.
Jessica Thomas has been shooting about 14 of 16 from behind that three point line and that could be the difference this afternoon.
We expect it to be a very high paced contest tonight.
Absolutely, John. I expect this to be a track. Both teams like really up-tempo style of offense and both teams subscribe to the mantra of the more shots you take, the more you make. So it's going to be about pace and tempo and controlling the number of possession.
Marcy, who scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds and this monstrous ruin, what did you turn on to give such an outstanding performance?
I mean, in the first half we let them end the half. What changed in your team from the first half to the second half? It seemed like they really turned it up, especially Alyssa Tarcy on the inside. What changed?
Well, I think we had a bad quarter. We had a bad second quarter and I ripped into them in the locker room.
She was fearless all game.
Well, Shayna Metta, she was absolutely outstanding. She came in and did what she does best. She's a playmaker at heart and so I thought she led the way with her intensity, her focus and really establishing the pace of play for her team.
But the champion Quakers took the punch and countered.
Oh, I thought that Penn came out and played like champions do. You mentioned they absorbed the run from Brown very early on, but they responded with their defense and they went to their good old reliability.
Michelle O'Caddie and Sidney Stepanovich as well. What was the message in the locker room for your team during halftime? Brown went on a very big run to close the second quarter. So what was the discussion?
Yeah, I mean, they hit a big shot right before we went into the locker room, but we knew that they pushed one of the best teams in the league.
Oh, they did. Brown has a tremendous upside. This team is young. This team is hungry. This team is gritty. And I think they have a lot to offer.
The rest of the Ivy League is probably on edge looking to watch out next year because I thought they had a fantastic close to a great season.
Princeton kept doing what worked. Alex Wheatley, Lake Detrick, they have so many weapons on the offensive end. And so it was really about picking their pores and what are you going to stop first?
And there were just too many things going on.
See how much damage can they do?
They can do a lot of damage. They can shoot that three-point ball better than anyone in the country. Their offensive is so potent and it's going to take a very focused defensive effort for no matter what team they face for them to be successful in knocking them off.
