It's really cool to go to the skate park
and enjoy life there
and you don't have to look at the checkpoint
down the street or whatever.
They often don't ever get to leave Palestine
and so they really want to fly
they can't do it on airplanes
while they have a skateboard to do it up in the air
and by golly they fly
they get high
music
You always just have these kids swimming around you
trying to get you to teach them a trick
or watch me do this, watch me do this, watch me do this
especially once you teach them a trick
for the next week that's all they want to do is that trick

Public space is dominated by men in the villages.
You know, it's much more conservative.
It's a society largely segregated by gender.
I was expecting the skate park to be only visited by males,
but it's not.
It's not at all.
Some of the boys have the sense of superiority
over their sisters just because of their male.
But as soon as this boy sees his sister or some other girl
do a trick that he can't do, it's
like an instance, like, dose of humility.
In the street, there are a lot of people,
for example, there are a lot of girls in the street
who know them, so they don't like to stay in front of them
with the boys.
And in the skates, you can't let anyone know them.
I wanted the Olympics to be held for four years.
So if it's a solution, I'm going to participate.
You give a skateboard to two kids, it doesn't matter
if they're boys or girls.
Or if they're 15 or 10.
And so there's a lot of, like, 10-year-old kids
who can do stuff that I will never try in my lifetime
on a skateboard because it's scary.
I think that one of the reasons why
Palestinian skaters progress so quickly
is because they go through so many hardships
in their lives already.
Falling down and scratching their elbow
doesn't seem like a big deal.
It doesn't seem like a big deal.
