How to finger wave.
We are first going to start off with a weft just to show you how the process is done.
This weft is damp so you will need to add just a little bit of water to the weft before
you begin.
We are going to have a rat tail comb and also a finger waving gel.
We are going to start by applying the gel to the weft.
Make sure that the hair is saturated.
Get your rat tail comb and comb through the hair to make sure that all the hair is even.
And we will begin.
The objective of the finger wave is to create an S shape pattern.
So first we are going to make sure that the hair is straight and we are going to go over
to our right hand side and you can use your other hand to help shape the pattern.
Okay and once you have part of the S, hold the hair down, comb the hair, make sure that
it is smooth and go the opposite direction to form the base of the S.
When you have the base of the S you can use the rat tail comb to push the hair up to get
a nice forming S. Okay, once you finish that part there, put your finger on the second
part of the S, hold it down and go the opposite direction.
Make sure the hair is smooth so you can go over it with the rat tail comb as much as
you like.
You can push it up so you can scrunch the S. Okay, hold it there, put your finger down
on that third part of the S and go over the opposite direction and you will continue to
do this until you have created your desired finger wave.
Scrunch it up if you need to, scrunch it up, use the rat tail comb to contour your S and
every time you get ready to go the opposite direction, press the hair down with your finger
to hold it in place and there is the basic finger wave.
Now we are ready to begin the finger wave on the doll head.
You have learned how to create an S shaped pattern with the hair and now we are going
to do it on the doll's head.
The hair has already been dampened and gel has been applied.
We are going to begin by combing through the hair with your rat tail comb.
For this demonstration we are only going to do one side of the doll's head.
If you need more gel, you can always apply more and be sure to keep the gel out of your
client's face and if you do get some on the forehead, you can easily wipe that off.
We are going to start the S shaped pattern.
Remember to comb and smooth the hair as you are going along.
Make sure that is smooth and have it going down on the forehead.
Hold it down with your hand.
You can use any finger, it is okay.
However you feel comfortable and be sure to comb all of the hair.
When you hold it, comb it in all of the hair in the opposite direction, this will help
you with your finger wave.
Now we are going to scrunch it up.
Scrunch it up a little bit.
Be sure that it is smooth.
Now we are going to go in the opposite direction, hold the hair.
Remember to comb all of the hair in the opposite direction.
I will keep adjusting the doll's head so that you are able to see the process and hopefully
it will be clear enough for you to follow or at least get a good idea of how the process
will go.
For this demonstration, we are going to create really big finger waves.
If you find that your client's hair is drying out, you can always have a spray bottle handy
to keep the hair moist so never let the hair go dry.
Hold the hair in place and begin combing the hair in the opposite direction while you are
holding the wave in place.
Now if you have duckbill clips, this would be a good time to insert the clips right in
here to hold the wave down and right over here to hold the wave in place.
If the hair keeps moving too much, you may need to use the duckbill clips.
Once again, make sure all the hair is smooth.
Just want to make sure that you are able to see everything.
I am scrunching the hair up on this side.
Now I am going back the opposite direction.
Hold the hair in place.
We are just going to wrap it around.
Here is the result of the finger wave.
Now keep trying and you will get really good at it.
The finger wave can go in any direction and you can create a style that matches your client's
head.
I would suggest that when you are done with the style, spray your client's hair with
spritz or holding spray and have them sit under a dryer for at least 45 minutes or until
the hair is completely dry.
Then when the finger waves are dry, your client will be ready to enjoy the new style.
Be sure you wrap your head at night after your finger waves have been done and avoid
excessive sweating because you will lose your style in the process.
