I think you're a... a stinker!
Wow! And it was only last week you said I was cool!
What did I do?
Let's watch ESLPodTV and find out!
Welcome to lesson 6 of ESLPodTV!
Today we will see part 3 of Young Man's Dream
where Bob and Judy have an argument over Alex.
We'll talk about this later, but before we watch, there are two questions.
The first one is, what does Bob have plenty of?
And the second, what does Judy call Bob?
Okay, it's movie time!
You're not running out of hot water, are you?
What?
I said, you're not running out of hot water, are you?
I stayed under quite a long time.
Don't worry about that.
Where do you see the electric water eater, Dad?
Got it.
Well, load it now.
We have plenty of hot water all the time.
Hey, Bob.
Yeah?
I thought you said your sister was just a little kid.
I'll let her fool you.
She's still a little monster.
Hey, you look mighty pernick.
How about that food?
Food?
Is that all you can think of at a time like this?
Besides, don't change the subject.
I ought to wring your smug little neck.
What's the matter now?
What have I done?
Stuteous.
Serious-minded.
What are you talking about?
Tops in all his classes.
Now, Judy, Alex is really a guy who...
Well, that's little time for girls.
Now, wait a minute.
Let me explain.
Not a woman hater to boot.
I think you're a... a stinker.
Why do girls have to have brothers?
I love you, too.
Now, simmer down, sis.
It's the truth.
Alex really has no time for girls, especially you.
Flattery will get you nowhere.
Just watch, Junior.
Hi, Alex.
I know you're hungry.
You'll be eating in a jiffy.
Excuse me.
Did you get that?
The answer to the question,
what does Bob have plenty of, is hot water.
And what did Judy call Bob?
Well, the answer to that is a stinker.
Okay.
The focus of today's lesson is arguing.
And in particular, what we call the put down,
or sometimes the comeback.
Watch this example.
Hey, you look mighty purring.
How about that food?
Food?
Is that all you can think of at a time like this?
This is what is meant by a put down.
sarcasm, a joke, or an insult,
in response to what is said.
Now, watch this.
I think you're a... a stinker.
Why do girls have to have brothers?
I love you too.
This is a very good example of a comeback,
an insult that is turned back with a joke,
or another insult.
Think of it a little like tennis.
Here is one more example of the same.
Alex really has no time for girls,
especially you.
Flattery will get you nowhere.
Just watch, Junior.
That's all for today.
