Yn 2006, we've had about 1,600 young people through our courses. We've been involved with running youth services in Cornwall, and our youth training project has emerged and become a school. It's called Circa Cernau, and it runs accredited training courses in Circa City.
It's a training course for performance.
Eich training course works towards a show. The shows happen sometimes in a big top, or in a large space like Eden, for example, or in an outdoor situation, where we like to aerial shows off cranes, or shows on boats. There's lots of water around here.
I've never achieved anything. I've never achieved anything in a recognised kind of way. I've never seen a course through to the end, from start to finish, and achieved a qualification or a skill.
I've achieved that, because I was really worrying that I was going to learn something new, and then end up having to go and work in an office or something, but I can actually earn a living from this.
Juggling manipulation is actually my strong point anyway, because I've been spinning for about ten years, and I've been doing contact juggling for about two.
Juggling, I can do juggling until I started, and now I can do four balls, which is quite cool. I've been into mime and acrobatics, and I've enjoyed every minute of it, although some parts have been hard work.
I'd say I haven't actually had a proper exercise for about five or six years, and to be doing six hours a day and doing that at home as well now, because obviously you've got to keep your levels up. I'm finding that really beneficial, and I'm really enjoying it.
People go sideways, Circus gives them the confidence to try things out. I think that's the one thing about Circus. It takes you out of a loop of habits, and it takes you somewhere else, and it takes your mind somewhere else.
It's a catalyst for change, Circus, always has been, and so with the confidence to actually stand up in front of people, our trainees have then got the confidence to go and stand in a job interview or take themselves forwards in training.
They might become hairdressers or mechanics or whatever, but they're going from a dark place and pressing the right buttons with clown and fitness and circus presentation to go somewhere more positive in their lives.
I've found some real strength in working with people, and I think teaching is a way for me.
I've thought of a few Circus companies that like to do work experience, where I've already been in contact with them.
Danny, she's looking into me doing more electrical, not courses, but having more electrical training, perhaps with other theatres and other performing people.
I might be specialising in trophies, although I'd like to, but all the other bits that I've learnt, I'll move forward as well. I'm taking all of it, basically. What I'm doing is I'm not just taking one bit of the course, I'm taking all of the bits of the course that I've learnt, and I'm taking it all forward, which is quite surprising.
