Hello everyone, welcome to another episode of TrulyAsia.tv.
My name is Kai and today I will be taking you on a tour in this spectacular place, Geron
Beach, located at Kuala Selangor.
Today my main goal is to learn how to windsurf.
Windsurfing is a surface watersport that combines elements of surfing and sailing.
It consists of a board usually 2-4 meters long, powered by the orthogonal effect of the wind
on a sail.
Alright everyone, I'm here right now with a very hunky instructor, Wilson, and he's
going to teach me how to set up the windsurf.
Hello, good to meet you, so tell us what's the first thing we need to do in setting up
a windsurf?
To set up a windsurfing, first you need to get all your equipment right.
So let me introduce you what are the equipments that we need.
This is a windsurfing board, it looks a little bit like a surfboard but it's way bigger
than surfboard.
But I have a question, do the boards vary depending on what level you're in?
The long boards basically, those days they used long boards, that was the old boards,
nowadays they have shorter boards, so this is a start board, it's truly for beginners.
So windsurfing equipments consist of 7 parts.
Number 1, board, board usually comes together with a fin, okay, this is fin.
This is the windsurfing sail, we have the mast, mast, mast, M-A-S-T mast.
We have boom, boom, yes, B-O-O-M boom, right, we have extension, we have a joint, okay,
and of course we have an uphaul line.
Alright, we're going to start to assemble the windsurf.
Alright guys, so we've finished the whole rig, it's complete, now we're just waiting
to put it on board.
My instructor is getting changed and I'm ready to hit the waves.
I am ready for my lesson.
While I'm learning, let's bring you to the other places in Malaysia where you could windsurf.
There are places like Balok Beach in Kwan Tan, located east of Malaysia, about 2 hours
drive from Kuala Lumpur.
For beginners, you could try in Puchong Lake just 20 minutes from Kuala Lumpur.
I would suggest for the beginners to start in a lake, as the waves would not be as rough
compared to the sea.
There are also competitions you could participate in, and one of them is Lumut Regatta at Perak,
where local and international participants are welcomed.
Okay, now back to my lesson.
After a few hours of trying, I could finally get a hang of windsurfing.
Even though it's very tiring, I certainly feel that windsurfing is a great sport to
learn.
