You
Welcome
to another edition of Hockey Night in Manchester, and after dropping the points against the
Guildford Flames last weekend, the Manchester Storm will be keen to get back to winning
ways as they play host for the first time this season to the Edinburgh Capitals.
We'll see if the Capitals have got anything left in the tank after such a brutal schedule
to get back to winning ways as they play host for the first time this season to the

Watch it here, it's Baker, it's along. Long puts in the shot, right on the toes of McLaughlin,
who puts out the rebound straight to Jay Rosell. Johnny on the spot, puts it in the gaping net.
Green Hill, Manchester Storm. Final two minutes of this period.
Three-nil to the storm. Jay Rosell takes a tumble, no call on the play. Long brings the put for storm to Baker.
Out to long, long shoots, in the middle, Rosell, right across the blue paint. Keepers lost his stick.
Lawrence dumps it, there's a delayed call, there's a fight down in the corner as Baker takes some, can't make out who it is, I think it's Boy.
Whatever's happened, Baker took exception to it, we'll see if we get it on the replay.
Baker's gone off the ice, I'm not sure if he's been thrown out or he's got an injury, it's because we're in the last few minutes.
It was actually Jay King who was on the blue line, it happened very near the caps bench, so I'm not sure what happened there.
It's the pit, Hammond Baker back in line, sorry. Storm, Zola wins the draw though for the caps, into the linesman, the caps keep possession.
That's all tipped in, Baker's a little bit no icing, Swindler's chases, doesn't come off his stick cleanly, Storm do survive though and come out of their own zone.
Hammond chases, caps with a long pass up ice, icing them.
Puffer's going to take the draw for Storm, it's all about the music, edge is 17, we're not that far up yet.
Puffer wins the draw but it bypasses Byers, Storm's still with possession though, Hansen cycles with Byers, Hansen puts it across, the puck is loose and it's in the back of the net.
Tom Perrin's given the goal, he must have seen it loose underneath McLaughlin and pretty much like the first period, Storm got a really scruffy goal by Byers, not like you can see on the replay now, you can only assume it was in between his pads.
You can hear there's a crowd realising that the goal has been given.
Storm with the draw, they can no nonsense play out, 45 seconds left of the 5-on-3.
Caps choosing to be taking the time to set up, they're certainly not rushing the play. They choose to play a Duncan chase game round the Storm zone, that's not going to work, Storm clear.
They've set up, they're still not moving the puck around as crisp and as clean as you'd want on a 5-on-3, 7 seconds left of the 5-on-3.
They'd hope to be getting a shot away as it's missed control behind the net. Storm killed the first penalty, looking for the pass, shots not coming, Storm keeping them to the outside.
Storm get rid of the puck over the zone, Springer taking a leap to try and keep possession of the puck, there's 51 seconds in this cap foul play, just 3 minutes left of the period.
Storm get a change, as do the caps. There's been a whistle, Linesman's made the call, 6 players on the ice.
I think that will be against the Capitals, it is, Baker wins, Stan is on the puck.
Pass to Rosehill over to Long, Long has Declan Barma, chooses to backhand, it's a Long, doesn't come, just doesn't come.
Cap's really fortunate there, just bobbling around right in front of Met, Storm couldn't deal with it, Storm with possession.
Just losing out there, that stuck in his glove, Storm come out with it, Becker tries a cross-ice pass, it's intercepted by Grigos.
Is it a tripping call there, no, accidental collision, Tom Perry not calling it, Stanis knocks it round the boards, that's for Muppet to chase.
Storm game possession, Hansen loses out, now then.
On the heart, Kozola shot, good save by Clemente, awkward rebound off the boards in front, golden opportunity, missed by the caps, caps, it's out there.
Finally blown by the referee, and as Clemente comes up that was safely between his legs.
Go a bit of pressure there by the caps as we watch the replay.
Put it right in front, but Clemente keeps his legs shut, that pucks underneath him.
No need to pressure, trying to feed that puck across to the power post.
Not moving it as quick and as accurate as you'd like, but certainly the best of the power plays that the caps have had, that's for sure.
A bit of sustained possession, Storm keeping him to the outside, shot comes in, delayed shot, wrist shot.
Taking a lot of deflection in there, one minute 14 to go, a lot better by the capitals.
Storm get that box back, they shoot from the blue, intercepted by Storm, Baker clears over the blue, long with the pressure,
high pressure by the two four checkers, but in come the caps.
Lots of possession in this two minute penalty, it's 43 seconds to go.
They choose to wheel back and make a change, got some fresh legs on.
Caps are on the attack, and like we said that high pressure four check, Storm win the puck back, 24 seconds on the penalty to go.
Hansen goes to meet, put a ball play, ticking down the seconds on this penalty.
Hansen doing really well, taking on two cap players.
Caps have the possession, Kozola, middle ice, chips it forward, Ferguson gets put up against the ball by Springer.
Springer, Marshall and Kozola, out by Eierhaar, and Hammond's the man over, he's one on one, chooses a little chip.
Keep it up nowhere, it is and it's in, buyers with the hat trick.
See this replay, don't know what to expect, cheeky little shot on the blocker side, gets the rebound, puts it across into the middle,
and Johnny on the spot there, Dane Byers with his third of the evening.
Well before today, Dane Byers only had three in the league, and he's just doubled his telly.
It's more than an assist man, but he's loving this game so far.
Moffat wins the draw, Stanitz behind the net, Fleming, nice pass up to Moffat, bit of a heavy control.
And when it boards, Rosehill to Byers, Moffat.
To Byers backhands it into the net, Rosehill was there, Rosehill again, can't get his shot away.
Bit of a strange line this one at the moment, bit of a mishmash.
Few players out there not used to playing with each other, see what happens.
Speculative shot in, goalkeepers lost it, thought it was in his glove, it was down at his feet.
Game states 5-0, watch the replay on this one.
It's thrown in towards net, keepers lost it, it's under his pads.
Caps win the draw, behind the net, lots of possession.
Unforced errors across the caps, Becker handling round, looking for Pitt.
Pitt's there and it's Hammond!
Just totally overloading that cap snap, those three players about to get points in any game.
It's just a matter of when really Hammond there, and the caps all at sixes and sevens.
Well 6-0 at the moment.
Pitt wins the draw for Storm.
Friends tries to push up, Hammond tries to get the points.
Kozola now for caps, caps on the attack.
Bit of work there, at the middle 2-1-1, shot, goal by Mike Hammond!
On the blocker side, thinking Dave McLaughlin the eyes there, but it was going to the right-hand side, went to the left.
Good finish by Hammond, you've got to say, to find that little slot on that blocker side.
I was saying they were at sixes and sevens, it's 7-0 now.
Still just under 11 minutes to go as well.
So Baker and Kozola in for the draw.
Misses them both and Baker ends up with a stick right in the face.
It was accidental.
It's a tough cookie, we'll see if he's, I don't think he's bleeding, we'll have a look.
Referee talks to his linesman, it's completely accidental.
Oh, he's not happy though, he's getting angry, I think.
To be honest, he's totally unneeded by Baker, Kozola had to apologise, it was completely accidental.
There's no need for that by Shane Baker, team 7-0 up.
Clearly not happy.
Swindler's behind the net for Storm, out to Moffat, he's got some speed, takes it in the zone.
Overlaps with Hanson, just missed controls through his legs.
Moffat tries to squeeze it across, is it there?
It's all messy in front.
And underneath that Piles McLaughlin, make the save.
Watch a replay from it.
Moffat tries to put in, it's a missed control by the catch player.
It all ends up a bit messy.
Outcome the caps, caps with the pressure.
Storm straight back at him, seems to be the way, every time a catch player gets the puck
it ends up back in Storm possession.
Ferguson now, points out on the left, puts the shot in and Coventi holds on to it.
Both teams back to even strength.
Baker comes back onto the ice.
Two cheers from the fans.
Doesn't look impressed.
We'll wait to watch if anything happens in the next eight minutes.
Stormmaker changing net.
Young Ashley Smith takes his place in net.
If you're a whole Pirates fan, he'll be no stranger to you.
Part of that link up between the Storm and whole Pirates.
I think I'm right in saying he's only 18 years of age.
So this will be some great experience for the lad.
Stanitz to long, long, waits, shoots straight down the middle.
Easy for McLaughlin.
I'm sure Ashley Smith will be good to get a bit of a rubber the puck early there with that little save.
Storm taking that shot in.
Comes to nothing, 7-0 the score, eight minutes, just over eight minutes to go.
Fleming.
That other player that hasn't scored a lead goal yet.
There's a delayed call on the caps.
Smith comes out of his net, he's wide open.
Everyone was stood waiting, including Stanitz at the far post for that goal.
Well, the ref's arm goes up for a delayed call.
All the catch players stood around expecting someone to touch it.
And up jumped Stanitz from the blue line to pop it home all too easy.
McLaughlin left wide open there.
No help from his players.
It's 8-0 for the storm.
Caps come away with possession, but Moffat wins it back.
All very leggy by the caps.
This is going to be a long six minutes plus.
Trends picks up the puck in his own zone.
Ferguson out there to meet.
Ferguson with the puck now.
Ferguson again, shoots it on Smith.
That's Smith changed for Mike Clemente.
This will be Smith's first elite league game of his short career.
He's very nervous in that net.
I'm sure he'll love it.
Hammond just missed that.
That'll be an icing call.
Still tight, Klan Giants 3-3.
Go for Flames and took the lead.
3-2 against the Dundee stars.
Still 1-0 at the Steelers against the Flyers.
Storm with possession.
Rosehill goes to net.
Good stick, poke check there by the caps.
Long with possession.
Baker's there.
Long keeps hold of the puck.
Banks it round the board.
Got a keep away here by the storm.
Baker that loses out into the zone.
Come caps, nice bit of skill,
but energy level's absolutely depleted by the caps there.
You can see the absolutely breathing through there is.
That was ears.
Good little interception by the storm there.
They're on the attack.
Long over the red.
Smart play onto the other side as the storm players get a change.
Kizola now.
Wayward pass.
Storm will pick that up with Swindlehurst.
To Trends.
Trends as a quick look.
Up to Moffitt.
Moffitt.
Drop pass byers and it's wide.
You'll just have to settle with three goals so far this evening.
Springer.
Moffitt into the zone and goes for a change.
Caps with possession now.
Lose it straight away to Hammond.
Moffitt into the zone.
Springer, Springer's wide open to Hammond.
I thought Springer would have been a bit more greedy there,
but lays it off to Hammond and nothing happened there.
Stormer offside gives the caps a little bit longer to deal with it,
but to keep the pressure on themselves, it's chipped out.
Ferguson brings it down.
Good play by Ferguson.
Boyd's up there with him.
Boyd's will chase it round.
Grows the body.
Great play by Boyd to win that put back for the caps.
He's been my caps player of the game.
Springer's giving him a bit of afters.
Game carries on though.
Springer and Boyd having words.
All the caps fans shouting in Boyd's defence.
Byers getting caught on the puck.
There is a call though.
Moffitt in for the storm and the draw.
Caps win the draw and it's Kozola on the puck.
Storm get it straight back.
Fleming's open on this side if they can get a puck crossed to him.
I can say not registered an elite league goal yet.
Fleming's there, still choosing not to pass to him.
The shot comes in.
Now I think that got a tip in front myself.
We'll wait and have a look on the replay.
I think it's this one will go to Jay Rosehill.
Let's have a look.
Tiber Rosehill or Hansen gets the tip.
We'll just have to wait to see what the officials say.
It's 9-0 to the Manchester storm.
52 seconds left.
Caps will be open.
They can keep this in single figures.
Storm being relentless here.
They're not letting up at all.
Farmer cross-ice.
Miscontrolled by Stanitz.
Farmer has the puck now.
40 seconds of the game left.
Out to the middle.
There's a push from behind and Baker.
He's not happy with that.
Puck comes in wide.
Very tired capside.
King shoots in.
It goes wide.
Boyd on the puck.
Trying to get some at 25 seconds left in the game.
As the storm fans are up singing.
Rosehill with the puck.
Rosehill to Barmer.
Barmer back hands it.
It's Spilt.
It's Spilt.
The keeper's down holding his head.
There's a crease violation as pointed out by Tom Perrin.
Fans quiet there whilst you see there's an injury to the keeper.
Just 30 seconds to go in this game.
Baker for Storm.
Back to Stanitz.
10 seconds left of the game.
Stanitz still on the puck.
Chips it out.
That'll be the game.
That's the game.
Manchester storm nine.
Edinburgh capitals nil.
Very tough game for the caps.
Heavy schedule for them and absolutely depleted roster.
They were up against it.
Spiff will be happy with his elite league debut.
That was a real Halloween thriller.
You must be pleased with that result.
It was scary going in.
Any time you're going against a team that's understaffed and they're back up goalie.
A lot of times teams come in light and you can end up chasing the game before you wake up.
We talked about it today just making sure we were ready to go play this game as if it's a game seven.
The right mentality.
We reminded them we didn't win in Guilford so we got to come on and put a good show on for our fans.
You've got a big match tomorrow at Milton Keynes that's notoriously tough on home turf.
How do you think that's going to go after this performance?
We want to take the positives.
Obviously guys should have some confidence scoring goals but we're under no illusions that it's going to be a much different game.
We've got to make sure we come with the right mental attitude.
It's going to be a lot tighter defensively and through the neutral zone but confident going in there and I think we all will ask it.
Man of the match three great goals.
First goal of the game.
How do you think today went?
It was a great win.
Obviously when guys come out like that we're flying around.
Snapping passes around.
It's fun to play.
A lot of credit goes out to my line.
It's made it easy.
Easy goals.
One of those fun games to play.
It's been a tough few games for Capitals.
You've stood in tonight admirably and you're 18th birthday yesterday as well.
How did you feel about tonight's game?
Tough.
Manchester are a good team but they didn't help us out of the call.
We made too many mistakes at our own end.
It cost us everything.
I've made a lot of mistakes myself as well.
It's a bad day all around really.
You've had a lot of assist this season as well.
You're really a team player.
How do you feel the teams playing together as a unit?
I think really well.
Sometimes it takes a while for teams to come together and gel together.
But I think we're doing a great job.
We've got a good lock room off the ice.
I think that's been the big key.
There's been a bit of controversy this week with dops and penalties and various things.
How do you feel it's going to go forward?
I think the league had to do something.
In my opinion they made the right call.
I'm proud of the way they stepped up.
It's never an easy situation to intervene like something like that.
But it had to be done and they had the balls to do it.
I think we'll see a stronger department of player safety moving forward.
