I started at a tie-dying shirts about two years ago.
Just started as a evening hobby, just bought like a little kit from the store, it was terrible.
But yeah, it was quite the experience from there, I loved it.
I enjoy tie-dying because every time I try something different I always have a different
outcome than what I expected, no matter how hard I try it always comes out different.
So it's that and the way I see the colors, I want the colors to turn out a certain way
but they always change on me and I think those variations are what make them unique
in a certain way because no matter what I do, even if I was a good artist and every
fold I did was perfect, it would still turn out different and that makes it extremely
unique.
The shirts can be a little bit expensive but I only say that because I like to offer
my products for as low of a price as possible and I guess I help out the community in that
way as well because I don't try to gouge anybody because I don't think my work is
extremely valuable, although I should, I guess it depends how you see the market.
There aren't a whole lot of other tie-dye artists in my community so I don't really
approach like work with other artists but I would definitely love to and anybody who
would love to learn, I am more than willing to teach.
And when it comes to the art form, it's pretty much just for wearing and viewing, I don't
like you know go anywhere and charge people just to look at the shirts it's theirs to
keep and wear forever and press upon others with their style, unique style.
It is a little difficult to find people to take orders from, I mean most of my businesses
through online and I've been doing a lot of marketing to get there and then I've also
done some small business in like the local area but you know that's also a whole different
market that I have to change my direction towards so it's definitely hard to find a
real good target audience.
When you sell your shirts do you feel like you're adding something to the community?
I guess as a small business owner, the best I'm adding as like the sole artist is my own
spin on art and the local art community I guess and the costs do kind of make it hard
for that reason since like if somebody wants a cheap shirt and I want to make it really
nice for them, the really nice shirts are going to cost more so I'm going to have to
raise the cost of the shirt.
And I don't always just make shirts for customers, they're also for friends and family and that
is you know upon my own accord but anybody who comes to me asking for a shirt I will
make it for them to the best of my abilities.
I'm not really promoting like anything serious behind my work but I use a lot of sacred geometry
which has more to say about how life is more of a scientific mathematical formula that we
all follow and not so cut and dry like many people's lifestyles lead them to believe.
My ultimate goal is to create a successful enough brand to be able to go to festivals
maybe EDM festivals especially because that's where I've been getting the most online marketing
through and be successful at that maybe.
