We took us along a valley and we had the river running below us for most of the time and the path skirted through forest, sometimes going up steeply.
But a lot of the time it was fairly flat. So that was a nice first day on our tour du fonction blanc walking.
And we passed through a couple of really pretty little analysts laies a lush and Pras de Forme where there are a lot of old wooden houses, Alpine houses
in various states of repair and then the river as we got further along the valley the river got
very wide but full of pebbles and boulders and not much water in it at all just a little stream
running through the bottom and then finally we had a break at La Fouie where we had a very
well deserved glass of fizy lemonade and orange in that which we really enjoyed to top up the
energy levels so tomorrow we're going to be walking a bit higher and a bit wilder so looking
forward to that to getting away from civilization a bit. So this is day two on our walk on the
Tour de Mont Blanc. We walked up from Ferret this morning and we're at about 2,000 meters now
very close to the border between Switzerland and heading into Italy where we'll be staying at
Refugio Eleanor tonight. Well our walk today took us to about the highest point we're going
to do on this stretch of the Tour de Mont Blanc. We passed the very pretty little dairy at La
Pearl where we had some refreshments. It was all alpine window boxes and very pretty and we
sat there and had a drink and then we continued on and the path traversed the mountain side and
it was getting wilder and wilder and further away from any civilization until we finally went
over the crest of Broncor Ferret at 2,500 meters with amazing views of the glaciers hanging over
us and now we're just descending to Refugio Eleanor where we're going to spend the night.
We've arrived in good time at Refugio Bernati. We decided this year to make each leg of our walk
a little shorter so that we could really enjoy the scenery and not have to rush and our walk
today took us down from Refugio Eleanor down to Chale Valferale where we had a really good cup
of Italian coffee to fortify us for our walk up the muddy path and we joined the path that
skirts along the mountainside above the treeline. We had the most amazing views over the rocky crags
opposite and the glaciers hanging there and we passed quite a lot of walkers coming the opposite
direction. We're slightly going against the flow and one party even had a mule to carry their
baggage. I was so jealous of that and finally we rounded the crest of the hill and we saw
Bernati in front of us hanging above the valley and this is where we'll spend the final night before
we go down to Cormaia where we finish our Tour de Mont Blanc for this year.
We left Refugio Bernati this morning. It's named after Walter Bernati who was a famous Italian
climber and we skirted the mountainside. We're in shadow to start with until the sun came over
the mountains and we've been having this wonderful view of Mont Blanc which you can see behind me,
Mont Blanc being the whole raison d'etre of the Tour de Mont Blanc where you walk in a circular
circuit all around this mountain peak. So we arrived back down to Cormaia. That's it for this year.
This is where we end and we had a fantastic walk today through the mountains, wonderful views,
wonderful weather, had a lovely picnic, a nice peaceful picnic spot with a view of Mont Blanc until
we were disturbed by about 30 other walkers and then we walked down below Refugio but only down
through the forest to where we ended up in Cormaia. So that's it for us this year but I hope to
be back again next year to finish the Tour de Mont Blanc.
