Hello and welcome to Raising the Bar with Jamie Boudreau.
Today we're going to take the recipe for our flavored simple syrup that we learned about
in a previous episode and apply it to a cocktail.
This cocktail is a variation on the old fashioned and I'm calling it a cubed old fashioned
and you'll soon see why.
So we're going to start off with our mixing glass.
We're going to stir this drink as opposed to shake it, which you learned about in a
previous episode on stirring.
We're going to start off with one part rumy martin, one part of a good rich rum, one part
of a quality bourbon.
Now we're going to add three different types of bitters.
We're going to add angostura, we're going to add bitter truth chocolate bitters and
angostura orange.
To this we're going to take one part of that simple syrup we talked about, nice and flavored
old fashioned style and we'll add some ice and stir away.
We're going to take a nice chilled glass with a big ice cube in it to slow down the
dilution.
We're going to strain that in there, do a nice fat zest on top and garnish with orange
and cherry, just as a nod to the old fashioned as you know it.
There you have it, cubed old fashioned using the old fashioned simple syrup.
