It takes vision to find your dreams and a willingness to pursue them.
I went on a 6,000 mile journey across the Northwest to find 12 individuals with the courage to follow their hearts and clear their own path.
These stories celebrate greatness in all of us. These are the true originals.
Every day of my life has been fun and the GoField Hotel has been the most fun of all.
You feel things the minute you walk in the door. You just come in and it's just, I don't know how to describe it, it's just a different, you feel good.
You feel energized and I've never come in here sad ever.
I feel that there are people here that have chosen the GoField Hotel to spend their eternity, that they are happy here and they're not malicious.
They will not bother anybody unless you bother them and then there's a little problem.
Most of these things are beyond belief but once you're in here and feel it, it no longer is beyond belief.
This is a gift and take the gift with you and spread it.
It's fun to introduce people to something that's so different and so exciting.
I'm Virginia Ridgway from GoField, Nevada and I've been the caretaker for the GoField Hotel here off and on for 30 years,
not continually but most of the time and I've enjoyed every minute of it.
So when did this place open?
It opened in 1908 in January.
What kind of people would come here?
Wealthy people from all over the world.
This place must have been a staple of luxury.
Fabulous luxury. Everything was deluxe.
French Champagne when it opened, they said just rolled out the door.
What's so special about this hotel?
I don't know, it's just magic.
It's not a connection to the past, it's connection to people of the past that you sense or not.
There's ghosts in this hotel. You actually love that and you feel very comfortable here.
Oh yeah.
Hey there.
Here's the man.
This is the owner, Red Roberts and a dear, dear friend.
When did you buy this place?
What year was it? I don't know, it's been how long, Virginia?
Six or seven years?
Six or seven years ago.
I wish you all the luck in the world for it.
It's a beautiful place and I can't wait to talk to Virginia and learn all about the stories because there's a lot of them.
We were touring maybe the third floor, I don't remember if she can correct me,
but she had told me that be very careful going down these stairs because I have been shoved a couple times from behind.
And I said, well, just hang on to me real solid here.
Sure enough, she got a shoved one, I had to catch her.
I didn't feel it. Do you remember that, Virginia?
What is your favorite room?
My room. Red has promised that room to me. It's down at the end of the hall.
This is called an energy room. This is my favorite room in the whole hotel.
This energy in here is incredible.
Also, if you'll do your hands, hold them out and walk straight toward the window and see what you feel.
Close your eyes, walk straight toward the window.
Very slowly. Did you feel a pull to the left?
No, I didn't feel a pull to the left, but I feel out of balance.
That corner is a pass through that goes to other dimensions.
Open your hands up and come slowly, very slowly, just with your hands.
Okay, you're feeling the tingling now?
It's in my fingertips.
People don't believe it. They think, oh, she's nuts.
That's what they want to think. That's fine.
But I've had people come from all over the world to visit.
It's the most focused, I think, anyone could get if they empty their minds and just enjoy it.
It sucks the bad things totally away.
Put your hand above mine and feel the electricity.
Can you feel it?
Yeah.
The tingling? Come on.
Yeah, it's kind of like little snaps, huh?
Uh-huh, come on.
If you're not going to visit, we're just going to run away.
Okay?
This was the last of those rooms. She was locked in here and chained to a radiator.
What was the significance of the flowers?
A year or so ago, one of my friends came up and brought her some flowers.
We put them in the room. I checked the place every week, but I don't come back here every week.
It was six or seven weeks.
I went in to say hello.
I said, well, the flowers are still alive.
The petals haven't fallen. What is this?
Then they started wiggling those flowers.
I said, is that you, Elizabeth?
It kind of went like this.
Whoa.
Most of the people I let in for the first time step inside the door and look and go,
I didn't know this was here.
It's so different from looking in the window.
It doesn't feel scary in here.
No, it's not.
It's not scary.
It's happy.
It's happy.
Except.
Except?
Yeah.
Well, I've experienced one sighting that actually materialized,
and I had four other people with me, including one of the sheriff's deputies who was a trained observer.
We came up the stairs.
We turned and we were right here.
Now, stay there.
Big clouds or puffs of smoke, it dissipated.
A man was standing here.
He leaned against the wall, put his leg against the wall, folded his arms and looked at us.
Is somebody walking?
How long were you standing here?
We were frozen in time.
I don't know.
We asked him, who are you? Do you need any help? What do you want?
And he didn't say a thing.
Who's walking behind me?
No one.
Oh, yes, there is.
Bring the...
Yeah, there's somebody back here.
A person?
Footsteps.
Let's walk up with the light.
You didn't hear me walking?
I heard something.
Yeah, somebody walking.
Hello?
Hello?
It sounded like it was coming from this room here.
Hello?
Hello?
I hear something.
Hello?
No.
Anyway, that's...
That's how it goes.
That's what we saw.
The question to you is, if people were coming here and the hotel opened,
what would you want them to know about the spirits and why is it not scary?
In my opinion, the only time a ghost will scare you
if you've been rude and obnoxious to it and threatening.
That's just human nature or ghost nature.
I don't want to be threatened and taunted.
I'm going to do something about it.
What's your dedication to this place so strong?
It's just bonded with it.
The first moment I stepped the foot in it, it felt like I'm home.
Why do you think there's so many spirits here?
Why do you think there's so much activity at the Goldfield Hotel?
It was probably a fun place when they were here.
And when they go somewhere else and have a choice, they choose to come back here because it was fun.
A lot of good memories.
Oh, yeah.
It's too marvelous a place to let decay.
I can come in here if I'm tired, exasperated, mad at somebody.
I can come in here and relax and I'm at peace with the world.
It brings me down back to earth.
It's a good feeling.
Try and call it, I guess you'd call it.
