Hello, this is Tropical Music.
Well, hello friends and welcome to another installment, another edition, another episode
of this fine podcast, feels more like another season, since I've been away for a couple
of months.
But I'm back.
My name is Robert Morales and we're going to be making some music together.
Today we are drinking some Johnny Walker Black, my favorite Scotch whiskey.
I don't know, they are not sponsoring the podcast, but I'll tell you why later.
We have them here.
As we record this, it is the 20th of May and today is, although they don't celebrate it
on the island anymore, it's the day of the Cuban independence and we shall celebrate.
That's one of the reasons why we have our Johnny Walker.
So let's start making some music.
But first this.
And the link of the week is cdbaby.com and cdbaby.com is a website, it's a service that
you send them your CD and they'll sell it, they'll sell it, they'll put it on iTunes,
they'll put it on Rhapsody, they'll put it on Last The Femme, I believe, you know, Internet
Radio and when they sell the CD, you know, they give you a chunk of money for the sell
of your CD and it's a way to promote your music.
And I'm going to send them my CD soon so they can sell it for me.
Well, hello, here we are.
As you can see, I've already laid out some of the tracks, I've laid out the bass guitar,
the piano, keyboards and percussion to save some time and besides I wanted to work a little
bit ahead on this song.
Here we go.
This is how it sounds.
If you recall, we had an audio podcast where I put the original recording of this song.
Okay, here we go, in this part, in this part we need to begin with a trumpet solo and when
I first installed Logic, and this is a tip for whoever installed Logic, in the default
it didn't install legacy instruments and the only way to get a single trumpet, although
it doesn't sound very well, let me add, it's by looking in the legacy instruments, otherwise
you get all trumpet ensembles that sound a little better but then don't give you the
single, you know, the solo trumpet sound, it doesn't really sound like a trumpet but
I added a lot of echo, a lot of reverb to mask the floss in the sample and we're going
to record this part, no, it's a D, not a B, here we go, let's record this abomination,
okay, let's listen to it, eventually when I do the final mix down of this song before
I do it, I'm going to call one of my trumpet player friends and have layout this track
with the real instruments.
Now in this portion I want to harmonize the thing, so I already have here a trombone
and a tenor sax, which are the other instruments that I'm going to have, so if it is going,
that's the trumpet part, that's the harmony, so here we go, and now we're going to do a
third voice with the tenor saxophone, which is a beautiful instrument here, so yeah, so
let's do that, and that's all that I'm going to do for right now, now here are the few
bars that we have so far, we start with piano and bass, on a pad, and cymbals and clover,
our beautiful trumpet, that's your trombone and saxophone, another trumpet, takes over
and in the next episode we'll continue with this song and many other fun things to talk
about, right now let's go to downtown Miami for a Johnny Walker tasting we had about a
couple of years ago, and we're going to go to the Carnival Center for the Performing
Arts, see you there, that's it, Carnival Center, okay.
Okay, welcome to the Johnny Walker journey, my name is Stephen Wilson and I'm the Grand
Ambassador for Johnny Walker here in the U.S., alright, we have a little bit of hope, we have
a little bit of ginger ale, we have a little bit of, I'm sorry, of seltzer water, I'm
ginger ale with polo, hey yes, we just got a tasting, the only negative, very very little
amount of alcohol, and we were really hoping to get hammered, but I will, till next time,
back to the studio now.
And although I was expecting there will be a lot more alcohol, it was fun, it was very,
what should I say, educational, we learned a lot about how scotch is made, and that's
it for this episode of Tropical Music, we'll see you next week, or next month, next time
