I was climbing alone at the Bald the day after New Year's, and it was a beautiful sunny day, blue skies, 28 degrees.
The snow was coming down, but it wasn't sticking.
And it was just a perfect, perfect day for Boulder, and nobody was at the Bald.
I hadn't seen anybody for hours on all the west side.
I heard some voices, and I was like, sweet other people.
And a guy from Austin, Texas, and his girlfriend walked up.
I had seen him and chatted with him a little bit the day before, and he was so amped.
I was freezing outside, and he was like, man, it's a beautiful day.
Blue skies, skies, skies, skies, skies
Some of them areardı blues, skies, skies, skies, messed up
Yeah!
Got all the way to the last move.
His right heel blew off
because his calf hit the side of the rock and just...
He popped off.
He tried it again.
He got literally to the last move
and as he was crossing his right hand up into it,
boom! Same thing.
Right heel blew.
Third try.
Nearly broke his ankle.
Got a huge cut on his first digit right here, the worst place possible, and going I think
it was on the crimp at the first few moves.
It started bleeding and it was just so bummed and I offered him some super glue and some
tape and he had never tried it before and so he put some on and let it dry and was just
raving about it.
This stuff's awesome, you know, looking so well, we got on it before trying it and it was awesome.
Rock cover.
Done.
Done.
Just got me so amped, he was amped and then couldn't stop raving about the super glue,
you know, he was just, ah, this is great, so we went and worked another problem before
trying it, but yeah, Austin climbers.
