This episode is all about giving back and having an attitude of gratitude.
I went one-to-one with the fabulous Kelly Price at her Mother's Day Mission Donation Drive.
So stay tuned because a brand new one-to-one with me, Onyx is coming up next.
Love. Community. Support. Change.
One-to-one with Onyx.
Welcome to the show. Our RV sensation, Kelly Price, set up a pop-up donation drive at Ebenezer Bathish Church
to collect much-needed items for women who were affected by this year's tornado to hit Georgia.
I went one-to-one with Kelly Price and Tara Grimm's McGee. Watch.
You can just tell me why you're doing this event.
Well, I've been traveling for, well, just traveling a little bit of part of the last year.
I'm a bit of a weather channel junkie.
Okay.
And I've taken notice of, you know, the weather patterns and, in particular, the weather that's been hitting this region of the country,
the tornadoes and how it's just really kind of been ripping through the outlying areas of Atlanta.
And Atlanta was the place that I called home for many, many, many years.
It bothered me a lot. And I would just walk around my hotel room looking at the television.
And for several days, I said, I want to do something. What should I do?
And I couldn't quite figure out what it was I wanted to do.
Do I do a concert? Do I do it? And, you know, a concert is the usual thing.
That's what I would normally do. But I started talking about it with my management team
and trying to figure out what it was that we could do that would be an immediate assistance to those who are in need.
And so they said, well, why don't instead of doing something that's music based,
why don't we do like a donation center where people come and bring things and we're right there meeting the need at that moment.
And I love the idea. I absolutely love the idea.
So we're here today. We're at Ebenezer Baptist Church, partnered with the Salvation Army.
I love it.
Along with it. Don't you love this?
Yes.
Do you think they may let us keep these when it's done?
I hope so.
Press recent entertainment and just a host of people, Magic 107.5, they came out today and supported.
I'm so grateful. Just the community is showing up.
And that's important. I've made phone calls to friends, but I always love to go into a community and see a community reach out to a community.
And there's so much of that going on today.
I had a little boy show up today who was sick, stayed home from school.
His granny drove all the way from Augusta to Atlanta to come and see him and sit and try to get him to eat something because his stomach was hurting and she brought him a case of bottled water.
And he had heard about the drive today and asked his dad, will you bring me over to where they're donating the stuff I want to give up my water.
And his dad said to him, well, if you give your case of water, what are you going to drink?
And he told his dad, I'll drink tap water.
Wow.
He's seven.
Just to know that even all the way down to you're talking a seven year old who heard about what's going on and wants to reach out and help somebody else.
So that's really what it's all about.
It starts with us for us by us.
We have to help each other.
And so that's what this is about.
I've been in the position of not having a roof over my head.
I know what it's like to have to come to a donation center like this to get food, to get something to wear, to get a warm coat to wear outside.
And so I'm not far removed from that.
And I just, I love being able to know that I have the platform to mobilize people to want to do it as well as participate in doing it myself.
Absolutely.
Now, what can we do to continue the effort after this?
Well, we have to just continue to do it.
I think that there's everybody can do something.
And even if you're not financially able to do something, you can come and donate your time.
There are people who are here who are helping unload vehicles, load up vehicles, pack up stuff, package things.
There's always something that someone can do.
And even if you just showed up just to say, hey, I'm physically unable to even help you.
But I just want you to know that you have my support.
We're praying for you.
We want you to know that we're spreading the word so that people that are in a position to give, they'll come and they'll give.
Everybody can do something.
And so, you know, sometimes we find ourselves in positions.
There's always somebody I really believe is worse off than you are.
Yeah, absolutely.
You can always find somebody that's worse off than you.
And I think if we keep that attitude, the attitude of gratitude, the attitude of giving.
That's how you not only help turn things around for the people, but you also help turn things around for yourself.
There has been so many volunteers coming through here today and a lot of donations.
Absolutely.
Is this what you envisioned?
Yeah, I mean, it's so wonderful to be here today to support our artists.
I'm General Manager of Front Megatame and Kelly Price.
You know, she volunteers.
This is such a wonderful and historic ministry and church.
So it is such an honor to be here.
And just to see the great work that's happening within the community here in ministry.
Fabulous.
Now, I've been here all day and it's a lot of hard work, but it's so, so worth it.
It is.
And I know that this isn't something that you have to do and that you really want to do.
How can we encourage other people to do the same?
Well, we want to ask people to come out and support.
There have been so many people affected by the tornadoes recently here in Georgia.
And we want to ask everyone to come out and just, you know, bring your time, your effort.
If you have no goods to bring, you could bring yourselves and help us pack up toiletries
and things and items that people take for granted.
You know, the people have things and we just want to ask people to come out and volunteer
your time and effort and bring as many items as you can to help the victims that have been
impacted by the tornadoes recently.
Yes, absolutely.
Now, I've seen a lot of kids here volunteering, very surprising, but I really, really love
that.
Did you envision kids coming to help out also?
I think it's great.
I think it's wonderful to see the next generation really want to get back to the community and
to have a sense of purpose in their lives and want to really help people.
So I think it's really, really beautiful.
Many people talk about children nowadays that want to play video games and all those kinds
of things.
Children that really, really care and want to share of their time and effort to help
I think it's such a wonderful testament to the wonderful things that are happening with
this new generation.
I agree 100%.
I'll be right back with RL from Next.
Keep it locked on One to One with Onyx.

Welcome back.
While volunteering, I caught up with RL, the lead singer from the R&B group Next and
Corey Tall Boy Sanders.
Check it out.
I am here with the fabulous RL and I wanted to know what it means for you to be here volunteering.
I mean, I just think about my mother, my little sister, you know, my nieces.
I respect women so much and they've influenced me so much.
I grew up in a hair salon.
Right.
I was really influenced by women.
Some gossip, but a lot of it was good.
So coming here, you know, it just brings me back home.
Right.
And that's what my music is about.
I really, you know, I cater to women.
So why not truly show that I really mean what I sing about?
Mm-hmm.
So I love women and I want to empower them.
Right.
And I want to show them that they mean a lot to me.
So let's go on here.
Now, I know that the tornadoes and the storms that hit here last week was very devastating.
Were you surprised at the impact?
Very.
You know, this is something that you watch on the news and it doesn't impact you like
that.
You look and maybe send some money and feel bad for people or I might have some artist
friends that are maybe out of the country and I'll check on them.
Mm-hmm.
But besides that, it's never hit this close.
Right.
You know, when I was younger, the earthquakes and things like that, when I lived in the
Bay Area in California, something like that, but not quite like this.
Right.
Right.
Absolutely.
Now, we want to encourage people to come and continue this movement.
What is something you can say to someone who may be watching to continue to give back,
even if it's not in this way?
Sometimes you got to switch the O and the I.
Right.
I mean, if it's something you love, you got to live it, you know.
So giving back and being here and doing this, this takes a couple hours of my time, but
this is actually more fulfilling than doing a performance.
You go to work at a job that you probably don't like, with a boss that you don't like,
doing something that you don't really care to do.
Why not come do some real work for something that you do care about for a cause that really
does me something?
Wow.
Very well said.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
No problem.
Hi.
How you guys doing?
My name is Corey Talboy Sanders, as she said.
I'm the new man on the street from Magic 107-5-97-5, and they asked us to come out and be supportive
of this event with Kelly Price and Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Salvation Army.
And I find out she's here too, and she's so lovely, you know.
So the reason why we're out here, we're really just trying to give back to the community,
and we want to let everyone know that the radio station, Magic 107-5-97-5, we're here
in the community.
So that's the main reason, and being the man on the street, you got to be out there in
the community, right?
Absolutely.
Now, what kind of donations have you seen come through the door today?
I've seen everything from t-shirts.
I've seen a little bit of toilet paper.
I've seen toothpaste.
I've seen mouthwash.
You know, people got to have good breath, you know.
They got to have a good breath, you know.
I've seen those type of donations come through.
Absolutely.
What are some other things that you guys are doing at the radio station to give back to
the community?
In regards to this event?
Any event.
We're doing a lot of things.
With me as the new man on the street, I do a lot of things in schools.
Okay.
So we're doing career day.
Matter of fact, today, I was at a career day at Bryan Elementary.
Shout out to Bryan Elementary out in Maverick, Georgia.
Nice.
We did a career on wheels program today where we actually took the radio station vehicles
out and we showed the kids what our jobs are like actually being out there on the road.
So we also do career days.
We do community events.
You name it, we're out there.
That is awesome.
We definitely appreciate your support.
It's so needed.
And thank you so much for talking with me.
