Hi, my name is Nikkie Roerike, I designed the Mercedes-Benz Mixtape Cover Vision Pearl.
When I was little, I used to be a very shy girl and I think I always was looking for
a different way to express myself visually and not know through words and I think it's
a very honest way for me to use my hands and play something.
I use a lot of hands in my work because I think hands cannot really lie, they're so honest.
I even enjoy small things like holding hands or someone's touch is always something special,
I think research is a really big part of how I work and I always use my sketchbook.
The hands I use in the artwork, it was inspired by fish in the ocean but at the same time
the hands are representing girls, one thing, the girl, something rare.
I like using collages, combined with paintings and drawings because I really like the physical
aspect of creating work with my hands and maybe I also do mixed media because I mix myself
because I'm German and Japanese.
I really like New York because I think all the people here in New York are here because
of something they really want to do.
Being in Tokyo, I've never had the chance to meet people that do similar things like
I do, illustration or art, here somehow I meet them all the time.
I think the flea market is a really fun place to look for inspiration because there's so
many old books or just weird collections of this old lady or I also like collecting
hand objects and often there's so many antique hand objects hidden in flea markets.
New York is a big city like Tokyo but it's so different.
Tokyo for me is so perfect but New York on the other hand is somehow so human and not
perfect and I'm just excited what's going to happen here and where it's going to take
me next.
