The
Well the day started out with both of us getting here later than we expected because we each
thought the other one had done something that the other one hadn't done.
So we had a little more to do when we got here than we thought we would.
But then artists started arriving at 10 to do a artists and models and us meet and greet.
Not just a meet and greet but for us to run through the any questions they may have to
clear up anything that they didn't know about or didn't understand.
We're going to draw for table places.
I know you're all kind of sitting in a comfortable and that's fine.
The reason we're doing that is because this way we are not going to be held liable.
The first person who's chosen to go into the room to be judged.
So when it's six o'clock and brushes down whoever has table number one will be the first
model to go into be judged.
Judging will start approximately five to ten minutes after it's brushes down.
So that means head pieces or any props or anything like that needs to be in your models
hand accents.
This is so adventurous.
I would love to tell you about it.
I was working on it all this week.
I mean weeks ago I finished it.
I totally hacklooted it this morning.
I've got lots of confirms but I figured it's a sacrifice to Sekmet who this is for.
So she's a destructive goddess.
She would have been worrying.
I haven't been glad yet but the day is just starting.
And then at eleven from eleven to twelve they could set up at twelve o'clock.
It was announced brushes up and then they had to they started painting and they painted
for three hours before the public was allowed.
Okay seven six five four three two one let's go.
How's it going?
My name is Otto from Appleton.
I'm doing a combination of paintbrush, airbrush.
We're doing cupid's nemesis.
How long have you been doing this?
Airbrushing for probably about six years.
Is this your first competition?
Yes.
As far as body paint?
Yes.
Normally I paint car's trucks but this kind of body works a lot more fun.
Don's been wanting to do a competition for a long time.
And it was in August of this year.
But I'm like hey let's do a competition.
I've been bugging you forever about this.
Now.
Now she says we'll do this.
I'm going to do like a lizard, chameleon lizard.
He's a dark chameleon male of time.
Hi I'm Christy Grates.
Today I'll be doing my Dr. Valentine ballerina style.
And so I've actually got this model here set up with lace.
And I also have a big tutu for her.
I'll be using airbrush, silicone, sponge work and hand painting.
So I'm just trying to get the whole look together to get the lace and the design to make it a big picture.
So I'm really excited about it.
My name is Michelle and my awesome model is Michelle's maid Ingram.
And this is both of our first competition ever.
So I've been painting for almost three years and body painting less than a year.
I was getting over the fact that we had enough prizes that everybody got one on top of just being there.
Everybody got more than their monies were because we had some great sponsorships.
And that's what I was geeking out about.
Everybody's going to leave with something more than just a gift bag from us.
Even if they don't place in the top three.
Hi, my name is Beth Costa and I'm from Belvedere, Illinois.
I have been a face painter for about three years, but this is my first body painting competition.
So I'm super excited.
I am using today a lot of tag and wolf body paint products.
I will also be doing some airbrushing.
And my concept for my piece today is the Stone Cold Heart of Medusa.
Thank you.
I'm Deborah Brommer.
I'm from Columbus, Ohio.
I'm going to be using brush and sponge technique today.
So no airbrush.
It's all applied with brushes and sponges.
My piece is about a princess from a far away kingdom who has been inhabited by an evil queen.
So the evil queen is living inside her and there's like this war going on.
I'm excited.
I'm excited. It's really great to have competitions like this where you have an excuse to come
and do a full piece and have a little bit of an idea to lead you.
You know, the theme kind of helps you come up with something.
But then you can just, you know, explore and do whatever you want within those parameters.
And it's just great having the opportunity to do a full body.
So at three o'clock then the general public was allowed to come in.
We had hors d'oeuvres and wine and beer.
They painted for three more hours until six o'clock.
And then it was announced brushes down.
And during that whole time we had DJ playing and there were awards being given away of our drawings that we had gotten from our sponsors.
I think it's fun. It's fun.
I'm anxious to see what they're going to look like at the very end.
I think it's very interesting.
I think everyone did a good job and I've been enjoying looking at the different artists and some of the different patterns maybe on the bodies.
I like looking at the detail.
And I like seeing how good the hand painting can be when it has to be detailed and makes it look realistic.
Also by adding texture.
Then shortly after six o'clock to draw people's attention away from the model so they could get lined up to go and get judged.
We had Holly Flack perform.
We had Holly Flack and Holly Flack and Holly Flack.
We had Holly Flack and Holly Flack.
We had Holly Flack and Holly Flack.
We had Holly Flack and Holly Flack.
We had Holly Flack and Holly Flack.
We also had Pasha, one of our judges, painting in the back, and Katie Kosovo-Roe came and painted a model.
So we had two models being painted on them.
We had the band performing, we announced the winners, had a good time.
We had a beautiful trophy.
Second place goes to Kristi Grace.
First place was a trip round-trip airfare, registration, and room and board at Faith and Body Art International Convention in Florida.
Also known as the Bear.
$250 cash and a beautiful trophy.
Those two come on, let's hear some of them.
Sarah Meyer.
She's going to show us a live panel of judges.
