So I found out maybe like 10 years ago now that our last name came from the profession
of people who made armor for knights and it was called Plattener.
It was kind of wild.
When I found it out I was like, holy shit, makes a lot of sense.
Ah, it feels so good, especially with the sunlight on it, it's like.
This one is hollow.
The process is so important to me and the idea of mass producing something just doesn't,
it's not for me.
I studied metalworking and furniture at Parsons and I think our first project was to make
a ring, it was a band, you cut the sheet, form it into a round circle and it was that.
Oh my god, I can make something out of a hard material into a form and it just blew my mind.
It's kind of fickle.
You have to work with it.
If you're not working with it, you might as well just stop.
I mean like for the time being, come on baby.
One of my biggest things is the way it feels on the body.
Each one really has a particular feeling in its own thing.
I do wear every piece.
It's a huge part of the design process because I really need to have it on and see how it
feels and wear it around, sleep in it, take a run, do things in it so you can really see
how it feels in life due to not just the moment, it's got to be very comfortable on the body
and at the same time, yeah, it's got to look good.
Hammering is a way to change the metal, change the form of the metal.
I do make bigger pieces as well.
The jewelry is an amazing way to work details out and see how forms can fall, move.
Part of the process is starting small.
This piece is called Falcons.
It's the biggest sculpture I've ever done.
This was sort of the beginning of it and I made it ten years ago and it's the first
time it's been seen.
This is our production studio.
These are the Crosby Street babes.
All of these hands, how many hands do we have here?
Make every single piece of jewelry right here.
Every time I make stuff, I'm just like, oh, this is so, this is the reason why I do it
because it's just being able to make form out of a hard material and being able to always
change it and evolve it and it's like a never-ending beautiful cycle.
