Councillors Capella Pasola
I was a platoon sergeant in Vietnam and I lost a couple of guys over there and my life mission was to do what I can to make a difference and I feel that God has prepared me for the task because he's made a way and with the drugs being very active in our community.
I saw the devastation of families and men motto is if the men ever get themselves together the women and the children going to be alright so that was kind of like the starting point for us and the ministry just grew from that just the need.
They feed people weekly, they do drive through prayers, they have men's recovery.
I met Pastor Sheig and he brung me in and he taught me things because I did not do nothing but sell dope, womanized women, rob and gang bag.
Pastor Sheig taught me how to be a carpenter, electrician, a plumber.
My mother was my children, she passed away when my younger son was 4 months old and I've been doing that for my own for the last 10 years.
It was all because of the lift, the Christ Jesus that I was able to be a man and stand on my own.
Loveless to me is the place, I don't know any other place is better than this.
We do all we can to minister to the total man, not just the spiritual man and we have been instrumental in actually providing a place where people can actually get off the streets and give an opportunity to have a wholesome life
and we thank God that we've been able to give back to God and humanity people who are productive members of society.
A lot of people can't make ends meet, they need a little help during the week to feed the kids and then you know they give gifts and they give the kids something to do because if you don't give the kids something to do they're going to get in trouble so they can come up here.
They got program designated and designed to pull into the life of the kids which is instrumental in any neighborhood.
I used to have a bullying problem at school but since I came to this church it helped me be inspired and that now I'm more confident in myself and I don't listen to what other people say because it's how you look at yourself and not how other people look at you.
I'm glad that we have a church home that we're basically living in. Church is our home, second home to us and I'm just glad that we have somewhere we can just wake up and praise the Lord for everything that he done with us.
Without God or the church, what are we going to do?
Thank God for the pastor leading our church and bless the food.
We also do food distribution every Wednesday on the east side of the street. We have anywhere from 50 to 75 families represented every Wednesday in which we pass out food that we have collected to be distributed to those and during that time we also pass out our distributed clothing that has been collected through our thrift store.
We have a thrift store over there and the prices are so low it's just about giving stuff away for the people that don't have the money to buy stuff and a lot of people in this neighborhood just don't have money so they can go there and they can get closed.
This is our thrift store and people from the community know that if they need something they can actually come and we have what is called a voucher and they can pick up a voucher in the office and that voucher is good for whatever they need.
They can bring it back over here and get clothing and we have household goods, we have some furniture and everything and we have actually been able to go on campaigns where if a person is in a position to get a place we actually help them set up their apartments.
One of the things that we try to be a part of is the homeless crisis in our community.
By helping people put their apartments or their studios or whatever they have together then we are alleviating the burden of homelessness and it gives other people hope.
This church saved this neighborhood and pastor is still saving people in this neighborhood.
I was one of the ones he saved. I would see pastor out on the sidewalks passing out flyers and he was always a good spirit and I had never seen a church with a drive-thru prayer.
We live in a society where people are on the go all the time and I was standing on Crenshaw and I noticed the morning traffic was moving and sometimes people are just so frustrated and the thought came to me that
somebody is going back to a job that they had difficulty with yesterday and if they had an opportunity to have a word of prayer before going back to that job it would probably make the day a little easier.
Even sometimes people leaving a home have had words that were not pleasing and just the opportunity to have a word of prayer has to make the day better.
The community is better because of this place. During the time I was around there was a lot of bad activities going on in the neighborhood but the ministry I have seen people not do stuff that they would normally do just because of the ministry, just because of pastor present.
When we first moved into the community there is a strip mall across the street and it was considered the supermarkets for drugs and since we moved into the community with a positive attitude I have seen that almost disappear.
If people would just realize how much he does I mean I would hope that that would make an impact on them to want to help.
One of the things that really hurt me is that the struggle that the ministry is going through financially when all he is trying to do is do good and so anything that can help pastor aid him into getting the ministry where it could be more productive to help people I stand in agreement with.
We ran into financial difficulty because providing a meal is expensive for everybody but one of the things that has prompted us to keep doing this is that we know what our children in the area get at school Monday through Friday.
They get lunch as well as breakfast but we don't know if all of those same children have the wherewithal to have anything Saturday and so Sunday we are guaranteed that they will have a meal because we lined the children up first the women and then the men.
One of the most disheartening things is that every night then a child will come and ask are we going to get seconds are we going to get seconds and that lets me know that sometimes more often than not there is not adequate food supply in the homes so we continually struggling to provide that meal.
We have to pay tides and stuff like that and you know give donations and stuff like that and whatever we can do to help help pastor that's that's all I can see that is for the church pastor is the church and for what capacity it wouldn't be no church.
I've never met any other pastor like pastor she he'll help anyone if they come and ask if they can't pay their rent and if he can he'll help them if they need food he'll say no problem that's his famous word no problem.
Pastor is doing what the Bible says in Matthew 25 and I believe 35 and 40 is to I was hungry and you fed me he feeds the community he closed the community he goes to the hospital and pray for them.
Oh my goodness he means a lot to the community a lot to the community.
Oftentimes people will point out a problem but they don't have a viable solution and pastor she's not only seen the problem and addressed the problem but he offered a viable solution for those that wanted to get their life together and ministry has helped a lot of people.
He's like a fixture in the community you'll see him walking you know across the street you know for corners talking to people he just helps people that's just what he does.
He's been around here for ever he's he's he's a wonderful man.
Let's make my day.
Let's make my day.
Let's make my day.
Let's make my day.
Let's make my day.
Let's make my day.
Let's make my day.
Let's make my day.
