Being a mountain biker has changed my whole perspective of my environment.
I see the landscape totally differently.
Everything is a challenge.
One of the most important things in my life is that I get to be in the outdoors and in
nature all the time.
Makes me feel alive.
My name is Richie Schley and I'm a professional mountain biker.
Sometimes I like to just go out and ride and relax and find a peace of mind.
It doesn't always have to be the scary thrills and death-defying stents.
There's one thing I believe in, it's earning your descent.
I think there's a pretty simple rule.
If it goes up, it must come down.
Trail riding is awesome, but there's a whole other world to be explored.
Years ago, the management of the Whistler Bike Park asked me, how can we make this place
so everyone will come here?
And all I said was, build jumps everywhere.
A lot of people like to take credit for A-Line.
I guess we'll really never know who's responsible for it.
One of the great things about the bike park is it brings people together and you can ride
with your friends if you can find some friends to ride with.
The ultimate experience in mountain biking or in nature in general is being in the alpine.
You can find these crazy lines and obstacles that you didn't think were ever doable.
When you're in the alpine, the whole exposure and risk factor goes dramatically through
the roof because there's rocks everywhere, there's cliffs everywhere, you don't feel
that confined.
It's really open.
It really is inspiring.
Fear is a really tricky thing because without it we wouldn't survive, but with too much
of it we would never explore.
I've been doing this so long I couldn't imagine living my life any other way.
