Hi doing, Mike Bublow here with Sony Electronics at NAB 2014, National Training Manager for
the Consumer Products and Digital Imaging.
We're extremely exciting, it's been an exciting year for Sony.
We came out with the A7 series this year, which is the world's smallest and lightest
full-frame SLR interchangeable lens camera that uses autofocus in the world.
So we have the A7R, we have the A7, 36 megapixel supreme resolution, very good, and now this
year at NAB we introduced the A7S.
So even though it's designed to be a still photographer's camera, it's also designed
to be a 4K camera for the video shooter.
It's the world's largest sensor to do full 4K video acquisition in the world.
It's 12 megapixel sensor, so when you're shooting video at 16.9, it actually goes down to 8.3
megapixels, which is the native resolution for 4K, which means we're not getting any
line skipping, no pixel binning, no pixel mapping, so you're going to get full sensor
readout at all times, giving you unbelievable dynamic range, unbelievable high ISO performance.
So using that 12 megapixel sensor, we're able to get ISO performance from up to 409,600
ISO, meaning that you can shoot virtually in any situation.
Also for video, the 4K you need to use an external recorder, and you're going to get
24p and 30p.
Internally you're going to get full HD quality XAVCS at 50 megabits per second, 24, 30, 60p,
and you can even do 120p at 720.
What's also unique about this camera is that it does S-Log2, so that'll increase your dynamic
range even farther.
So not only is the sensor very sensitive, but we're including S-Log2 to give you ultimate
dynamic range and ultimate quality.
420 in camera, 8-bit, 422 via the external recorder.
Another unique thing about this camera is that since the sensor is so sensitive, we're
able to get autofocus down to negative 4EV.
So even in extreme low light, you're able to do continuous autofocus, continuous tracking
in video and in stills.
Unlimited record time in the body itself, so it's not limited to what normal ILC cameras
are limited to at 29 minutes 59 seconds, so you're going to be able to do long term videos
and long shot videos without having to do any breaks and without having to do any editing
after the fact.
Of course, it's a fantastic still camera, fully magnesium alloy, fully weather sealed,
5 frames a second video, and of course, to get back under the video track, how good is
video if you don't have audio, through the multi-interface shoe, you're actually able
to have a multi-pin connector here, so you can attach full XLR input, so you can get
full uncompressed linear PCM XLR input with full manual control.
Headphone jack, mic jack, manual audio level control built into the camera itself.
So for still photographers, for videographers alike, you have one of the most powerful devices
in the world that can fit in your palm of your hand, be able to bring anywhere you want,
be able to have an ecosystem of lenses with the E-mount system that you can use, adapt
any of our E-mount lenses, you can use our full frame E-mount lenses, all of our E-mount
lenses, you can adapt Nikon, Canon, Cineprime, PL mount, anything that you can think of,
so you have the most versatile system, again, in the palm of your hand.
So thanks for visiting, Mike Bubleau, NAB 2014, Sony Electronics, thanks a lot.
