We're here at Veeamon 2017 and we're at the Data Gravity booth.
Can you tell us a little bit about the company and what you're showing here at Veeamon?
Sure.
Thanks for having us on the Veeam blog webcast here.
Dave Syles, CTO of Data Gravity.
Data Gravity is a data management platform company that has partnered with virtualization
providers, storage providers, and obviously here at Veeamon we're announcing our new
integration with Veeam to extend our data management platform across all those different
platform environments.
And so you guys were mentioning in the keynote, can you tell us a little more about the partnership?
Sure, absolutely.
Yeah, Veeam's been a really good partner to us and they did mention this in the keynote,
talking about how we're extending our vision of our data management platform bringing full
sensitive data management, content identification, behavior driven data protection to the Veeam
availability platform.
Veeam has built a world class ability platform that we have extended with data management
solutions to give business agility and business visibility on your data, whether it's backed
up by Veeam or living in your virtual environment.
Great.
Is it possible to get a demo of the product?
Yeah, absolutely.
Love to show that for you.
So what I'm going to show you here is the new product we released here at Veeamon 2017.
It's a data gravity for availability product and our partnership with Veeam.
So this is the appliance.
It deploys as a virtual machine, five minute download, 15 minute deployment.
Once you've got it deployed, we go in and bring into management all the virtual machines
in your infrastructure and index them.
And as that happens, as that happens, you get a graphical visitation of visibility into
your virtual machines.
You quickly can see who owns what data, what the most active users are in your system,
how much data you have over time that hasn't been accessed, modified, used or deleted.
You see how your data is growing from a trending perspective and then we've got this unique
visibility of being able to tag sensitive data identification.
And that sensitive data is where it really helps people understand where they have things
that match the compliance, credit card numbers, social security numbers and the like.
We also, as we're doing this, we are full text indexing every single file in the system.
That allows us to give you a Google search functionality across all your Veeam backups,
across all Veeam jobs, both local and in the cloud, to return data at its moment's notice.
As you do a search for content, you can say, show me all the files that Elin Keter read
that have credit card numbers in it that were tag confidential in the finance share.
If you want to drill into a user's profile even deeper, you can quickly see everything
a user has been reading, writing, accessing, modifying or deleting.
We have a real-time activity tracking feature in the product that watches this proactively
looking for user activity.
That user activity allows us to do something really unique with Veeam, which is behavior
driven data protection.
As users are doing certain activities, we can track that and then force actions that
happen based on top of that.
Through our insight profile, which consists of tags of data classification, now we ship
with normalized indicators for PII off the gate and then customers can extend this to
meet their business needs.
That sensitive data tag gets put into profiles and then applied against your Veeam backups.
But as we define data that is matching a policy or profile, we can proactively take
action against it.
For example, obviously ransomware is a pretty hot topic nowadays.
If you see ransomware happening inside the environment, we're proactively going to stop
and disable that user account.
We're going to send the system administrator a message.
We're going to force a Veeam backup and we're going to allow you to start the interactive
file level recovery to recover only those damaged files.
As you drill into the file architecture, you get a chance to see exactly when the file
came into the system, everybody who's written that file, all the activities that have happened
and then you get to see all the versions over time.
Because of our partnership with Veeam, if you want to recover that file or a previous
file, it's one click recovery all the way back into the virtual machine.
That's awesome.
It's a natural extension to the platform that people already have in a world-class solution
with Veeam and their availability suite.
We just give that data management layer that extends out to give you complete visibility,
a 360 degree view of your data.
We give you a sense of data identification and we give you behavioral driven data protection
that allows you to mitigate and protect your environment against both physical and virtual
data threats.
Great.
Well, thanks for taking the time to speak with Veeam blog and we hope you have a great
show.
Thank you for having us.
