What's going on everybody, my name's Tom and I'm Don Tynan Pittsburgh for the 250th anniversary of the city.
I promised some really cool things, the reopening of Point State Park, which is our big attraction here with the fountain where the three rivers meet.
Food, festivities, and Pittsburgh has also promised the biggest fireworks display that they've ever had in the city.
You know anything about the city, that's a pretty big deal because we go all out for pretty much anything as far as fireworks are concerned.
I want you guys to come with me, we'll get some interviews, have some fun, you guys can check out everything that's going on here just in case you didn't get the chance to make a thought.
Well, we are celebrating the 250th anniversary of Pittsburgh.
In the year 1758, at the set season of the year, the British and French empires were at war across the globe, including the North American colonies each had.
The French coming down from Canada, the British moving west from the coast.
Initially, this was a French fort, Fort Duquesne, and it threatened the frontier settlements of the English colonies, Pennsylvania, Virginia, what have you.
And in 1758, a British army under General John Forbes marched west, composed of British regulars and provincial troops, such as I am, and captured the fort from the French.
That's the really short version.
I was hired by the museum to perform for the 250th anniversary.
I'm walking on a slack rope and juggling in balance.
What's a slack rope?
Here, if we walk this way, I'll show you.
This is a slack rope, not a tight rope.
So I'm doing an interpretation of 18th century entertainment.
George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were big fans of street performing.
And so I'm here just to add more flavor for the weekend for celebration.
So I'm going to be walking on the rope and juggling and balancing.
Would you like to try it?
Sure, sure.
Can you give me one of those?
I really love the growing bicycle culture here.
The trails, just in the seven years we've been here, it's really improved a lot.
Being able to ride around and be able to come down here and get in the valley, bike parking, and see other people walking around with bike helmets on and everything.
We were away for like eight and a half years and decided to move back.
It's nice to be back around family because Pittsburgh is kind of a family-oriented city.
And another reason that food is just excellent here.
I live pretty much everywhere in the United States and there's nowhere good food as there is in Pittsburgh.
These are fantastic fireworks and they're huge.
They have coordination with music which makes it very nice and they last longer.
I mean it's like a 30-minute event and I think this is going to be an amazing experience.
That's why we're here waiting for this magnificent event that's going to happen around 10 p.m. today.
We're up here on Mount Washington.
Bebo told us this is going to be the best place to catch fireworks from so you guys enjoy.
No matter which way you come into Pittsburgh, it all hits you at once whether you come from north or south.
You just come around that bend on 79 coming either way.
It's just like...
It's f***ing amazing.
And the Steelers.
God, I love the Steelers.
Happy Birthday Pittsburgh! Happy 250!
Happy 250!
So that's it.
You guys saw a pretty good fireworks show, pretty good celebration.
Pretty much everything we have to offer on our 250th anniversary of the city.
Hope you guys enjoyed it.
This is Tom Martin at Higgity's.
