This all started as a hobby, like everyone else, in my backyard doing about two, three
cars a year and one day I decided I was going to stop working on my real job and go for
it and try it.
So over the past year and a half or two now I've been able to build up a good client
list and make the jump to go to my own job and open up this shop.
My name is Dave Paster, owner of Straight Line Auto Works, better known as SLAL, located
in Blackwood, New Jersey.
We're a small specialty shop that customizes multi wagons, Audi's, anything European really,
we'll do anything from American cars to European cars.
I got into this when I was about 16 years old.
I watched my dad, he always messed with cars, so like any other son you want to follow in
your father's footsteps.
So I decided to go to school, learn how to do auto body, paint work, that kind of stuff
and from there I kind of just, I picked up from working at different shops, having good
friends that were in the shops for years, they showed me how to paint better, do better
body work.
And just over the years, the more you do it, the better you get.
I wouldn't say I'm almost self-taught at this point, you know, you teach yourself different
techniques, different ways to do stuff, you can do stuff more efficiently, quicker, everything
to end in a better result, that's what you want to do, you want to try to get the best
result as possible to make the client happy, yourself happy and for everyone that doesn't
know you or does know you to always think that, man that's a really good job, that's
my biggest fear is a bad reputation and here at SLAW we don't want anyone to have a bad
experience.
I feel like every new client is a new best friend to me, that's how it is if you ever
meet anyone that we've done work for, I feel like they would say the same thing and we
are probably now better friends than clients.
Be able to do this for a full time and actually enjoy what I do more than what I used to be
able to do, I wouldn't trade it in for the world, it's awesome.
