Well, well, well, well, I love Thursday mornings. I love Thursday mornings because Thursday
morning is the time that I get to get with some of the people that I most care about
those independent music producers, artists out there, label people, all of us aspiring
to do something in music, television, multimedia. It's time for create your label. And it's
a wonderful time. The time I get to share with you. So it's great to be here Thursday
mornings, 10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. And I'm here with the wonderful, wonderful morning
coffee crew, Victor Allen and Danielle Holland. What's happening team? There we go. There
we go. Thursday. She's in the house. She's in the house. She's in the house and they
do it. You know, they keep me on. They keep me going straight. And here we are. I'll create
your label. I want you to know that I sometimes I forget to remind you this is available for
you to call in and the calling number 646-652-4891-646-652-4891. All right. So you guys, I got a bunch
of stuff to tell them today. How are you guys feeling today? I'm feeling a little, you know,
I'm feeling pretty good. You know, I can't wait to impart wisdom, knowledge, perspective,
well, and some Viagra for those who need it. Well, I want to apologize to some of the people.
We have some very avid friends who look forward to the videos. And you know, it's with just
the three of us. And we're going to be showing you more. Victor and I had a big discussion
over the weekend, you all. And we really decided to open up and share with you more of the
behind the scenes stuff. So we're going to plan on maybe a big show where Victor is following
me around with the camera. We're showing you the studio, giving you behind the scenes,
because we want you to know what's going on here. Because once again, we have some technical
problems. We had to delay the syndication of the last show because of audio problems.
We did have to, we have these backup systems. I'm going to talk to you later when we get
further down the line about your own backup systems when you're recording. But our backup
systems did help us and save our ass. But then I had to go back, recapture the video.
And the reason why I'm apologizing, because I know how much you guys like this stuff,
but you too will have to balance the issue of stuff you need to get done and stuff you
want to get done. Because I bet you right now, if you're working on creating your label,
tell me if one of the issues you're already having is when you get to have the same time
to be creative. All of a sudden, we're in administrative and maintenance mode.
Yeah, yeah. See, I don't like that either. See, let me make something clear. I don't
get off on that stuff. Neither does Nick, you guys. We don't get off on this stuff.
We did all this because we want to be creative. It's just that, like you, you got to wear
a bunch of hats, right? So true. I mean, you know what? Everybody likes to get into the
brainstorming, the great ideas and say, Oh, I can do this. I can do this. And then when
you start to dribble down and then you have to troubleshoot and you got to think of risk,
all of a sudden it pops up. So that's why we are bait type.
Well, that's right. But baby, and you know, we're getting the screen casting thing down
when we go out on the air and go to your site and look at it and comment. And you know,
you guys are having the same problems that I'm having. You know, it's how you prioritize
the stuff you have to get done. So today we're going to hit and jump around and get this
because, okay, why am I doing like this? And I send this out to Dan. Thank you, Dan, for
keeping me on track because I still have to do some planning things. Okay, but I'm trying
to stay useful till I can take some time. I might have to say, I don't want to take a
week off to write the show, but I might have to. But I don't want to. So what I'm trying
to do is get you ready before we start the other stuff to get you ready by getting you
up to date with all these little nit-picky items that I know you need to get done anyway.
That's why I told everybody, send me questions because I'm trying hard to answer your questions.
But today I'm going to try to give you some very useful and practical things straight
off the bat. First things first, landing page. Have you guys heard that term? Daddy,
have you heard the term landing page? Yes. Yeah. We've got a great one actually. Well
thank you. I like it. Got my little airplane. It lands right on the page. It's different
from a landing strip, which may be a way you cut your anyway. No, don't go there. Okay.
All right. Now what I'm saying is the landing page is where people first see when they get
to your site. I've checked. So it's the first page, the home page was the first thing they
come to when they get to your site. Now, one thing I'm going to tell you guys, there's
a lot of ways to do this, but let me be very clear about the things you got to do. Make
sure that the top part of the screen, the screen that first appears to you in your browser,
that you focus on that. Okay. The second thing is you need to try to make as immediate an
impression as you can. Take a look at packstereo.tv. Yes, I know it's a work in progress in some
ways. You could argue maybe a little bit too much, but the idea was when our numbers were
much lower, we had a very slow staggered way of entering our site. Like it came up first
like packstereo. Then click this and then it took, then you went to this little intermediate
thing that told you what the site was going to be like and then you went into the site.
Now after learning more, we really try to go for that immediate impact much in the same
way that you do when you write songs. You want to hit it fast. So you got to have it
hitting fast. So one of the main things I say about some of you guys' sites when I visit
your pages, it's not starting with any music or audio presentation. Okay. And I think you
really need to hit them with a music or audio, probably we believe in video presentation on
that landing page. Now I'm just going to talk about this. I'm going to hit a few things
because you know, we have, we all know schedule here a little bit today and we're going to
come back to these things again in more detail, but I want you to go look at your landing
page. The first thing that hits, boom, the top part of the screen before you do any
scrolling down and really look at the maximum impact. I also want you to go around to other
sites. Take a look at paxtail.tv. I know we can be critical because we're still changing
it all the time, but try to find at least somebody's site that you like. You know, Vic,
I always tell them that I said, you know, when you find websites that you like, save
them as your favorites, chart it somewhere because we're going to imitate the things
we like. That's one of the basic ways we approach things.
No, you're right. I mean, you have to think of it where, think of it as a fan and not
the person that's saying, I want to come across with my idea. What do you like when
you go to other websites? I mean, what's the first thing, for example, just take anything
then you go to a website. What's the first thing you look for based on the type of websites
you go to?
Well, I think unconsciously for me, it's always the eye pleasing, the design, you know what
I mean? The design will captivate me and the music will always kind of, kind of keep
me there, you know, because I'll be reading to say, okay, well, what are they about? You
know, but also keep in mind too, in general, in advertising, when you're driving down
the street, billboards are made for you to look at them quickly. And I think the measurement
of time to get the consumer to look at it and process it in their mind is three seconds.
I don't know what it is for online and I will double check that. But you want, like Mario
said, you want that quick impact, your logo, you know, and just something that you can
look over and people looking at it, scan over it to kind of get an idea as to what you're
about.
Yeah.
Now, quickly.
And before you, will you think that we're suggesting that you take your free time and
go to a graduate school for public relations and marketing? No, we're not. You know what
we are suggesting you do is what I started doing, learn to do regular searches on topics.
For all of you people out there where money is tight, let me tell you something. I will
say now, at least for a moment, resist the temptation to buy books. Why do I say that?
I like that. I buy a lot of books. I'm not saying don't buy any books because I want
you to get into the habit of searching online and printing or reading from online. Why?
It's more immediate. It's more up to date. By the time a book comes out, it's actually
dated. Okay. So I want you to try to read online, but you can search a topic like online
promotion of indie music. Right.
And you'll be surprised. You'll find video tutorials, stuff like what we're doing, other
people are doing, but go look at that because some of the stuff that Daddy's talking about
start to digest that material. Okay.
And then to add to that, Pax, you get people who are already currently experimenting and
giving you immediate results. I mean, it's like a day or two days, the same day. So they
get to give you things on the fly. Whereas books, of course, have to go through the publishing
app.
That's right. And that's why the web is so good. Hey, check this out. Vic and I really
think, but again, it's hard to do this, that it's best to have a landing page that's changing
all the time.
