Five great things to do in Springfield.
Located between two awesome rivers in the Willamette Valley, you'll find Springfield,
Oregon, a great place to live, work, and play.
It's also home to most hotel rooms between Portland and San Francisco, so chances are
you're here and wondering how to make the best of your visit.
Well, we've got you covered with everything Springfield.
I'm Neal.
And I'm Courtney, with five great things to do while you're here.
Springfield Farmers Market.
The Springfield Farmers Market is an open-air marketplace for great food, local produce,
art, and entertainment.
Located right here in downtown Springfield and open every Friday.
Dave, the popularity of the Springfield Farmers Market continues to grow.
Can you tell me what the secret is?
I think the secret is community engagement.
You know, we really seek to bring great products and create an environment that this unique
community wants to find.
And so people are coming down here not just to do their grocery shopping, but to have
a great time in general, to get a great dinner with their kids, listen to live music that
we've got going on.
What's one of the craziest things to eat here at the Market?
From our local creamery vendor here at the Market, you get a scoop of their smoked salted
caramel ice cream, put it on the same cone as their cherry IPA, and you can't beat it.
Running Trails.
You can find some of the best walking, biking, and running trails right here in Springfield.
Whether you prefer river views, urban settings with public art, or running in the footsteps
of legends, we've got it all.
So we're here on Priest Trail.
Steve was the epitome of cool, and he's still inspiring runners.
While Steve Prefontaine lived right here in this area, this trail was developed in loving
memory of him.
It has magnificent views of the river, and it goes right by Odson Stadium, home of the
Oregon Ducks.
What could be better than that?
I think all of our paths are accessible to just about everyone, whether you're walking,
you're bicycling, you're walking the dog, you're taking the kids out for a stroll.
Our paths are gorgeous.
They promote a healthy lifestyle, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of our beautiful
paths.
Splash.
Located just minutes away from I-5 is Springfield Indoor Water Park Splash.
Open year-round, Splash includes an incredible wave pool, hot tubs, pools for kiddos, and
a huge slide that twists and turns and will make you scream.
Steve, more than 100,000 people visit Splash annually.
Tell me what it is about the pool that draws them in.
It's a place where the entire family can come and play, and whether you're playing in the
waves or you're in the kiddie pool, you're in the hot tub, you can all enjoy.
The wave pool is a lot of fun.
It starts at zero depth and goes down to seven feet, and you can enjoy the breakers, or you
can go down and roll on the waves on our tubes.
The slide is 126 feet long, and it's a lot of fun, and if you have little ones, you can
take them down with you.
Downtown Art and Shopping.
Walk around downtown Springfield and explore the colorful canvass of murals, art galleries,
and exhibits.
Art not only brightens downtown, but has played a vital role in its revitalization.
One of the great things about having arts in the downtown is it brings people to enjoy
the downtown, to look at the art, and then to explore the other businesses that are here.
Downtown Springfield is very walkable.
We have great retail establishments with unique things, great restaurants representing different
cultures in different countries, have a Latino business community that's growing.
We have kids in our downtown.
We have a couple of schools.
They bring some vitality to the area, and they also connect well with the Wildish Theater
that presents many opportunities for folks to enjoy downtown and see something that's
special.
The Mackenzie and Willamette Rivers.
Springfield is located between two amazing rivers that take the number one spot on our
countdown.
The Willamette and Mackenzie Rivers offer beauty, recreation, and history at every turn.
So beautiful river right downtown.
Is that kind of unusual?
I mean, how strange is that to have this?
It's very unusual to have this type of river this close with this many opportunities for
angling, for boating, for swimming.
It's very, very good to have it this close.
So if I'm coming from out of town, or maybe I've never really fished before, how difficult
is it really to get down here and do it?
It's really not too bad.
A lot of local shops around, a lot of knowledge to be able to help you out.
Just a few minutes in one of those shops can, you can learn a lot and get you out there
and have some fun.
While fishing the Mackenzie is incredible, to really experience the thrill of the river,
you have to get in.
And the best way to do that is the memory making excitement of whitewater rafting.
So you actually, at any skill level, can take people out in these boats onto the river.
Yes, we can.
We'll teach them everything they need to know.
So why has it become so popular?
Because it's so fun.
It's so wonderful for families, seniors, groups.
It's just a great sampling of Oregon, and we take beginners all the time.
Wow Courtney, that was fun.
And there's so much we couldn't cover.
