There's days definitely where I I wonder where on earth I am and why is it so cold
and we don't have indoor heating and it's not easy but happiness and joy and
comfort are all very different things.
Life is just a lot more difficult in certain ways and so much more simple in
other ways. There's not a lot of electricity here most of the year. Sometimes
it's as low as four hours a day so you really plan your life around the
electricity and the power schedule. Biggest aspects your day is getting
anywhere. Travel here is horrible. It's actually one of the leading causes of
death is just crossing the road. Everything just takes an extra measure of
patience out here. Having the dogs barking all night, my sinks are leaking, my
wall is moldy. A lot of dirt roads, everything's always dusty, waking up
with a sore throat most of the time. You're usually not feeling 100%. Sometimes
these little things just build up and I want to just curl up and cry. This is
chaos here.
Well the initial plan was to come to Nepal and open a guest house that would
eventually be able to support an orphanage that we would also start. The
general concept being social entrepreneurship. The idea being not to
take any percentages from any existing markets but rather creating small
niche markets. It's a 200-year-old building that's been traditionally
renovated so that when you're here you might live like Anapali did a few
hundred years ago. This last season has been been very very good and it's full
so it's it's going really well. The second company is a organic dairy company
focusing on pasteurization and distribution of dairy products. Milk
around here is horrible. The cows are constantly sick, people always get sick
from drinking the milk. We make products like yogurt, butter, cream, new orders
coming in every day. A big highlight for me has been being able to be part of
the day-to-day life of the women and kids down at Mercy Mission. They have
become like an instant family to me. The children come home from school, they'll
run right up to me and there's just nothing like it. It's just a whole
mother family. I love going down to the children's home in the evening. They do a
devotion together and you sing. It really recharges me, charges my batteries.
It makes it all worthwhile. Any time you have a bad day and you think what am I
doing here? This is way too hard, it's not comfortable, it's not easy. You go down
there and you're instantly reminded. What's so incredible about this is slowly
learning what their different background stories are. Their former
poverty and neglect and just the horrific things they've witnessed in their
young lives makes it seem impossible that they'd ever be able to smile again.
In the city there's 58% unemployment. We've realized that we can give them an
education but we can't get them a job. We want to provide not only funding
but also job training because there's so much need and we want to give that all
away. God doesn't show up in a very large way, in a very real way. We won't make it.
Battling with the idea of success and having God redefine my idea of what
that is, God will use these companies ultimately for His will, whatever that
looks like, whether that means through their success or by their failure. This
is what we're called to do for some specific reason and I may not know what
that is now or find out the full reason for many years, if ever. I always felt
like something was missing. There's a peace that was never filled up but it
wasn't until I came here that I was like, wow, I'm day-to-day the tasks that I'm
doing aren't menial to me. If you feel that conviction in your life you don't
need to be afraid of it. You can go and He's gonna He's gonna provide for you
and take care of you. God absolutely wrecked my plans that I had for my
personal life and where I thought my life was going hasn't been easy. If you're in
that place, if you feel like God's ripping something from your hands, He
might be even aggressively trying to get you a place of absolute dependence on
Him. I would encourage you to welcome that. You can trust our Father. He is so
good and so faithful and He will help you accomplish things you never in a
million years thought you could.
