This is 5 in 10, 5 topics, 10 minutes or less on Skywatch TV for Monday, July 24th.
I'm Derek Gilbert.
Topic number five today, the nanny state is stepping in and taking over for parents.
In Oregon, the state has taken away two children from a couple that they say are too mentally
limited to be good parents.
A couple of human services in Oregon has taken away the boys of 31-year-old Amy Fabrini
and 38-year-old Eric Ziegler, put them in foster care.
According to the Oregonian newspaper, they didn't find any evidence of neglect or abuse.
They just say that they are of limited cognitive ability.
Fabrini's IQ estimated at about 72 Ziegler at about 66.
The normal range for adults is 90 to 110.
The couple's older son was taken away by the state soon after he was born, and five months
ago they stepped in and took the second child hunter before he even left the hospital, never
went home with his parents.
A former volunteer with a state agency that oversaw visits between the couple and Christopher
said that officials are making this judgment on their intellectual capabilities without
any guidelines.
This is just sort of an arbitrary decision by the Department of Human Services in Oregon.
When the volunteer told the state agency that she felt that the couple could be effective
parents for the son, Christopher, she was told her services were no longer required.
If this doesn't bother you, it really should.
Topic number four, chipping employees.
This is the first here in the U.S., a company in Wisconsin, becoming the first to microchip
their employees.
Three square market offering to implant RFID chips inside their employees, it would allow
them to wave their hand and buy snacks in the break room, open doors, log into the computers,
use the copy machine, be tracked everywhere they go inside the building so managers can
see how long these employees are away from their desks.
The program is optional according to the three square market, but they do expect over 50
staff members to be voluntarily chipped like lambs to the slaughter.
They're partnering with a company from Sweden called Biohacks International.
Topic number three, human smuggling in Texas turns deadly, a gruesome discovery at a Walmart
parking lot in Texas Saturday.
Ten people are dead, about 30 others injured.
This story broke when an employee at Walmart was approached by a man asking for water and
obviously in distress.
He was led to the trailer of this 18-wheeler where they found 30 injured people, eight
dead children struggling, suffering from heat stroke, dehydration.
Two more people have died since Saturday and others are still fighting for their lives
in hospital.
The driver of the truck was taken into custody, Department of Homeland Security is also investigating.
The driver, 60 year old James Matthew Bradley of Clearwater, Florida was arraigned in Texas.
He's don't know how long the truck was sitting in front of the Walmart, but it didn't have
air conditioning and daytime temperatures were well over 100 degrees.
Topic number two, cutting off the Syrian rebels.
President Trump has decided to end the CIA's covert program to arm and train so-called
moderate rebels in Syria.
This program was the central plank of the policy put out by the Obama administration
to try to overthrow the government of Bashar al-Assad in 2013.
At the end of this CIA program, the U.S. policy in Syria now or U.S. involvement in Syria
is basically the air war against the Islamic State and a Pentagon run, train and equip
program, mainly using Kurdish militia forces to fight the Islamic State in the Euphrates
River Valley between their capital city of Raqqa and the new Islamic State stronghold
or attempted stronghold in Deir ez-Zor.
We're still fighting going on there as Syrian soldiers surrounded by ISIS forces in Deir
ez-Zor are trying to hang on there.
But the fact is that these types of programs, I mean, we should have known that for the
last 35 years, beginning with our arming of the Mujahideen in Afghanistan, which led
to the creation of the Taliban and then al-Qaeda, these kind of programs always come back to
bite us.
The latest case in point, the murders of these three American soldiers, 27-year-old Staff
Sergeant Matthew C. Llewellyn of Kirksville, Missouri, Staff Sergeant Kevin J. McEnroe
of Tucson, Arizona, and 27-year-old Staff Sergeant James F. Moriarty of Kerville, Texas.
In Jordan last Monday, July 17th, a Jordanian military court sentenced a Jordanian soldier,
Mareeq Al-Tawaiyat, to life in prison with hard labor.
Now, in Jordan, life sentence can mean, gets off in 20 years if he's a good boy.
Since last November, these three Green Berets were killed while they tried to enter the
King Faisal Air Base, which is where the CIA was conducting this covert training of moderate
rebels.
The Jordanian soldier opened fire, fired on the Americans in this convoy while it sat
outside the base for six minutes, reloading his rifle multiple times.
Foreign Affairs Magazine reported that the U.S. soldiers were hunted down and executed
at close range.
A fourth U.S. soldier was able to wound the Jordanian, which put an end to the attack.
Our Spec Ops troops are not happy about this.
In fact, they weren't happy about this program before these three men were murdered in cold
blood.
A news site operated by former Spec Ops forces, Soft Rep News, reported last September that
a former Green Beret said, quote, everyone on the ground knows that these guys are jihadis,
meaning the moderate rebels.
No one on the ground believes in this mission or this effort, and they know that they're
just training the next generation of jihadis, so they are just sabotaging it, end quote.
Well, thankfully, President Trump has taken a step toward ending this insanity by putting
a stop to the CIA program.
But again, the Pentagon still arming and equipping moderate rebels, but of course the media jumped
on President Trump's decision as a win for Vladimir Putin and Russia.
Topic number one, paying for terror.
Possibly the only thing in the war on terror that makes even less sense in arming and equipping
the next generation of jihadis is paying convicted jihadis for the suffering they endured after
they were caught.
I missed this story last week and trying to make up for it now.
The government of Canada recently issued an official apology and $10.5 million Canadian,
that's about $8 million US, to Toronto-born Islamic jihadist Omar Qadir for his ordeal
at Guantanamo Bay.
Deprivation, solitary confinement, things like that.
The 30-year-old Qadir was 15 when he was arrested fighting in Afghanistan with al Qaeda.
He tossed a grenade that killed an American soldier and blinded another, put out an eye.
This civil settlement was reached on the basis of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Back in 2003, Qadir confessed to throwing the grenade that killed US Special Forces Sergeant
1st Class Christopher Speer and causing Sergeant 1st Class Lane Morris to lose one eye.
Years later, Qadir retracted his confession saying it was extracted under duress.
In fact, it was part of a plea deal that got him out of Gitmo and allowed him to serve
the rest of his time in Canada.
Well, the Liberal government of Justin Trudeau has taken some criticism for this from the
Conservatives in Canada.
In response, Prime Minister Trudeau said the settlement had nothing to do with Qadir's
2002 actions on the battlefield in Afghanistan, but rather with the fact that his rights had
been violated, $8 million.
Canadian Senator Linda Frum has the last word.
She asked, has any soldier who fought for Canada ever received as generous a reward
as this soldier who fought against us?
