My name is Gennady Tiripkov and I'm the director of The Open Foundation.
The Open is a creative think tank and it's aim is to promote creativity and design all
around the world.
Now we are in Delhi for our project Made in India.
We have this exhibition, Samskara, the idea of the exhibition is to show how traditional
skills can find their place in a globalized world.
My name is Sunil Sethi, along with The Open I have curated this exhibition.
The Open has given a very nice platform to the Indian designer in different disciplines
to be able to show their best.
The traditional craftsmen, when they team up with an Indian designer, then the product
can be truly of an international quality.
Hi I'm Gunjan Gupta, I'm a furniture designer based out of New Delhi.
For this show I particularly have lots of sculptural forms.
I have the potli which is the Indian Dhobi's sloth sack that's been converted into a sculptural
chair.
I've also designed the Masan, the Masan is the Oblong Indian Cushion, it's been a part
of Indian cultures in Sanction times.
I've used that form again to create another sculptural throne which is called the Masanath
throne.
One of the things about my practice is that I'm bringing craft back into the contemporary
design vocabulary.
It is extremely important for us as a rapidly modernizing culture, it is also something
that has extreme unique artisanal value across the world.
Hi I'm Rahul Mishra and I'm a designer based out of New Delhi.
The beauty of craft is that craft enables one rural Indian who probably has never been
to a city also, who has never been to a school as well.
It gives him power to execute his philosophy, his artistry.
I'm here to create jobs at villages and rather than just designing a product if you can create
a nice system, I think that is job well done.
Hi I'm Pratik, I'm one of the designers from Clove and we specialize in loan glass and
metal lights and installations.
The piece that you see here is a peacock, peacock is an Indian national bird.
We use skilled blowers to make our products, we've been for many many years making scientific
equipment for that.
It's a new way of applying a skill set which has been available to us for many many years.
I feel that in the international market, the customer wants to take home something special.
India needs to cash in on its handicrafts.
That I think is the key thing that we take out of this exhibition.
