I'm extremely proud to say that the B-Spot has taken you to LA, Vegas, Atlanta, and we've
hung out with some of the biggest stars in the game, but this episode means the most
to me.
It's all about my relationship with my son, it's about me as a dad, it's about me hanging
out with my favorite person in the world, Chase Dawson.
Chase is seven years old going on 21, I know most parents can relate to that, he's the
oldest of my two sons, my youngest is his name is Kayla, we'll talk about him on a future
show.
Right now I'm going to take you inside the world of me and Chase, I mean he's practically
famous in this market, everywhere I go people always ask me about it.
Ready?
Today we're making a new Carolina Smiles commercial, today we're making a new Carolina
Smiles commercial.
One of the first things I did with Chase was put him on one of my radio commercials
for a client named Carolina Smiles, dental clinic of Durham.
At the time I was just trying to expose him into the radio game just so he can see what
his dad does, I didn't know it would take off and be that big.
I mean we've won countless number of awards doing these commercials, we've done probably
about 10 of them, we won a national award in terms of how the commercial was made,
I mean Chase really makes the commercials, anybody who knows me knows commercials are
not my strong suit, but this dude, he brings the best out of me.
What's all you want to say to me?
Pretty boy swag, hey pretty boy swag, hey pretty boy swag, hey pretty boy swag, hey.
And that's how we make the commercial.
That's how we make the commercial.
That's how we make the commercial.
The cool thing about having a son for a father is that you get a chance to live through your
child in a good way, you get a chance to do things with them that you always wanted to
do when you were young.
So tonight before we eat dinner, I had a big surprise for Chase.
So guess what?
Alright so this weekend I'm taking you to the Martin Luther King Mart, you heard of
Martin Luther King Junior?
Yes.
Tell me about him.
Have you ever talked about him at school?
In first grade.
In first grade?
Which I'll talk about.
We talked about, he got shy but he was still alive and he was a preacher, he was a preacher,
that's right.
And he told everybody to be nice, to be nice, so they have a big parade in his memory in
DC.
So we're going to see the Eagles, the Riscos, we're going to Washington DC this weekend
and we're going to see Grandma and then we're going to drive, you have me drive, you have
me drive.
So we're going to see the MLK parade in Washington DC and we're going to hang out, take some
pictures and see your cousins and then we're going to go to the game.
No you got a cousin named Isaac that you've never met him before.
And the Riscos?
No, no, no, no.
The Riscos is Sunday.
Guess who gave us the tickets for the Riscos?
Brandon Bay.
You saw Brandon on my TV show?
He's good.
He's a good man.
He's fast.
Are you fast?
I'm fast like him.
He's fast like you?
And Devin Hester, he's my number, 23.
23?
That's your football number.
How do you like playing for the Eagles?
Do you like it?
You remember when he ran a touchdown?
I do.
That's you.
Yeah.
So all right, you've been doing good at school.
I appreciate you doing your thing.
So we have a good time this weekend, you ready to go?
You got to get your haircut.

I have planned a major trip, one that has been on my mind for a long time.
We're going to Washington DC, the nation's capital.
It's a big weekend in the city.
First of all, I'm from the area.
Second of all, they are unveiling the National Martin Luther King Statue.
I mean, this is world news and I feel honored to have an opportunity to take my son to DC
so I can say he's seeing it first.
Dad, is that the White House?
You cannot go to Washington DC without stopping by the White House.
It's a very proud moment for me to have the opportunity to show him the White House, to show him where President Barack Obama works every day.
I mean, he was extremely excited.
All he kept asking me was, Dad, can we go inside?
Can we go inside?
I grew up about 35 minutes from Washington DC.
So seeing the White House, it didn't mean a lot to me when I was small.
But I tell you what, to take my son by for him to see it was very special.
It's almost like a strange place now.
I mean, you see a lot of protestors, you see a lot of proud Americans.
You just see the best of what I think America stands for.
You've got to go by the White House. It's a must thing to do.
But I'm not concerned about that now.
I just want to do God's will.
And he's allowed me to go up to the mountain.
And I've looked over.
And I've seen the promised land.
I may not get there with you.
But I want you to know the night that we as a people will get to the promised land.
So I'm happy tonight. I'm not worried about anything.
I'm not fearing any man.
My eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.
As an African American, it meant a lot to me to actually see that monument with my own two eyes.
You could feel the pain and the struggle of people who paid a price
for me to do the things that I do, for me to have an opportunity to be on the radio.
I know that was bigger than me.
So, you know, I take my head off to people like Dr. Martin Luther King
and have an opportunity to show my son him and talk about his life
and maybe inspire my son to be great.
That means the world.
But this is a day that would not be denied.
For this day, we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s return to the National Mall.
In this place, he will stand for all time among monuments to those who fathered this nation
and those who defended it.
A black preacher, no official rank or title, who somehow gave voice to our deepest dreams
and our most lasting ideals.
A man who stirred our conscience and thereby helped make our union more perfect.
My son is a big sports fan, obviously, his dad is.
So, to take him to the Washington Redskins game,
I think I might have been a little bit more excited to him,
but I'll tell you what, he was all smiles.
We had a great time. We enjoyed the game.
It was a big game too. It was an early season game.
So, the Redskins, you know, were still looking good.
The Dream Team, the Philadelphia Eagles, they had a lot of fans in the stands.
The game was electrifying.
It's always funny for me to take my son to a game because my son really gets into it.
Like, he's the authentic fan.
I didn't realize that he would become such a big Washington Redskins fan.
I mean, before that day, he was always a Patriots fan.
What's your favorite football team?
New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers.
Who do you like on the Patriots?
Um, Green Ellies.
But I'll tell you what, he morphed into the biggest Redskins fan I've ever seen.
This never fails. Every game I take my son to, he does this.
He makes everybody in the crowd look at him.
And it kind of embarrasses me, but it's funny because he's so excited.
He's full of energy. I mean, people get a kick out of him.
Of course, everybody knows I'm a big Cowboy fan,
but I must admit, I love Michael Vick.
So I would have to say the Eagles is my second team.
So my son was rooting for the Redskins. I was rooting for the Eagles.
But I'll tell you what, the most important thing is we had a great time.
My name is Chase Dawson. I'm AKXP, and I play for the Durham Eagles.
So you're watching The Beast Boy with my dad, Brian Dawson, on Channel 50 or 13.
My dad loves sports. His dad loves sports.
And I bet you his dad's dad loves sports.
So it's only natural that I was going to have Chase loving sports.
And I was excited to see that he really followed in all our footsteps.
Being young, I give him an opportunity to play all sports.
I really believe in sports. I believe that sports are bigger than just the activities that go on.
It gives you a chance to bond with someone.
And I must admit, Chase and I have bonded over sports very well.
He's a well-rounded athlete. It's still too early to tell.
I mean, I'm not putting him in the pros or nothing.
But I'll tell you what, he's done well in each sport.
I signed him up for baseball without even practicing.
His first at-bat was a home run.
I mean, he didn't hit the ball far, but I'll tell you what, he's really fast.
I knew once he got on first base that second, third and home was well within his reach.
Probably Chase's best attribute is his speed.
I mean, I was fast when I was young.
So I kind of expected him to be fast.
He's done really well in track.
I love track because it gets him in shape for his favorite two sports.
Basketball and football.
Of course, we spent a lot of time playing basketball.
It's my favorite sport.
He's really adapted well and done well on each team that he's played on.
It's been a great feeling for me to sit in the stands and watch him succeed.
I don't care how busy I am or whatever I got to do for the radio station,
or making appearances or whatever for the community,
but making time for my son is always my number one priority.
Family is what it's all about.
I come out here every day, pick him up from practice every day.
This is his first year, of course, playing tackle football.
Like most parents, I was scared to put him in football.
I mean, I thought about it long and hard.
But I knew he had to be a little bit tougher.
So football was the perfect sport.
I mean, he did well in baseball.
He did well in track.
He even did well in soccer.
He surprised me with how well he did in football.
In football, this has been a great thing for him.
You know, the Tiny Mike first experience has been really, really memorable for me.
So always exciting thing.
And I'm looking forward to what he's doing now as a football player
and hoping that he'll develop as a person.
And it's just a beautiful thing.
He was one of the top tacklers on the team.
And every time he played offense and he got that ball in his hand,
a touchdown was waiting to happen.
We ran with the Tiny Tube and I faked number three hours like this.
So you ran the touchdown.
Chase plays for the Durham Eagles,
which is an institution, I'm going to call it,
for young kids here in Durham, man.
They do a great job with the Durham Eagles.
A little tough league, man.
It's nothing to be played with, but if you want your child
to get some great experience at least playing football and learning the game,
this has been a wonderful experience.
They're undefeated and they're getting ready to play in the Super Bowl.
So the Super Bowl game will be played at Moles Grove.
He's very excited to be participating in that.
I'm excited.
Sometimes I feel like I'm playing.
It's hard to watch him because, you know, you feel like it's you.
So when you get hit, you feel it.
And when you score, you feel that too.
So it's a great thing.
So shout out to the Eagles, to that organization.
And hopefully they can win this Super Bowl and be excited if they do.
My name is De'Andre Martin.
My name is Antonio Beanie.
My name is Lariso McFetter.
My name is Aiden Beanie.
My name is Chase Dawson.
You're watching the Bees Bawler, Ryan Dawson.
I'm so excited.
The Bees Bawler
If sports teach you how to be tough, then football teaches you how to be tougher.
The big day has arrived.
The Durham Eagles are undefeated.
They're the number one Tiny Mike team in the city.
And today is their Super Bowl.
They got to play their rival, the Cap City Steelers.
I mean, you're talking about a tough organization.
I mean, it's tough enough playing another undefeated team.
But then you got to deal with the weather.
This is football weather. This is time.
Because guess what? I guarantee you, I guarantee you, they didn't play in the rain.
Have we played in the rain?
Yeah!
Have we played in the cold?
Yes, sir!
And what do we do?
We outplay!
What do we do?
We outplay!
Exactly.
We played in colder conditions.
We played in the rain.
We played in the mud.
We practiced in the rain.
We practiced in the mud.
We practiced in the cold.
We're ready!
It was easily the coldest day of the year.
Rainy, wet, and man.
Those kids didn't know how to handle it at first.
We're going to go to the bathroom.
Oh, yeah!
Oh, yeah!
So we tell them!
So we tell them!
We are...
Oh, yeah!
So we tell them!
We are...
Oh, yeah!
The game was hard for it.
It was back and forth throughout the game.
Both teams had great defenses.
I was very proud of Chase.
I mean, he came to play.
He made a big tackle to start the game off.
Both teams played well.
For a while there, I didn't think we would win.
But finally, the Durham Eagles pulled it out.
Come on!
Truthfully speaking, there was no losers today.
I mean, both teams played hard.
Both teams have a lot to be proud of.
I was honored to be a dad.
Right hand out!
Sportsmanship!
Good job, man!
Good job! Both teams, great job!
You be around me for five minutes.
It won't take you long to realize I'm a gold-oriented person.
But I'll tell you what.
Being a father is the most special thing
that could ever happen to anybody.
I mean, the precious moments you get with your children,
to teach them, to coach them,
to guide them is a very special thing.
I have a very unique relationship with my son.
He reminds me a lot of myself.
And like most parents, I try to live through him.
But I try to do it the right way.
I try to give him some things that I didn't have.
I speak for most parents as we understand quickly
that our children is our most important investor.
The money, the cars, the trips mean nothing without family.
I know I tell you this all the time, son,
but I really love you.
Please, Dawson, you're special.
Thank you.
