So, my first impression of the Sony A7R II, it's been a great step up from the A7S.
Not so much with the low light, but just having that 4K image in camera is so much better
than recording it externally and dealing with that and the addition of getting hard drives
and it may be getting cut off or something, so it's been great in that sense.
The kit on here is basically like rehashed stuff that I used from a 5D originally, like
the cage is the wooden cage and I was using that in a 5D and I just kind of adjusted it
to fit for the A7S.
I love the cage, even stripped down I use the cage even for photography as well, just
to get it easy to carry.
As far as adding anything to this camera, there is a Canon battery and it mounts into
the A7R II and that gives me the additional power that I need because the batteries last
about an hour or a little under an hour and that's kind of ridiculous because even I have
a whole bunch of batteries but it's like swapping them out while you're shooting, it's just
not good.
So the two Canon batteries on that setup, which also has XLR on it, gives me at least
two and a half hours of power, which is great if not more.
So here's a breakdown of this Cinekit.
So the Rode NTG-4 plus mic actually bought one that was just an NTG-4 and it was phantom
powered and this specific hookup that I have here is in the beach deck, didn't support
it so the mic didn't work.
So I would go with the NTG-4 plus.
It's an amazing mic for what it is and also obviously you can hook up a lab mic to the
beach deck box as well.
The ICON-7 monitor is just an older monitor, it's good, the resolution is okay but it's
enough to set up a shot for me.
Zucuto EVF, that's great when I break this kit down, I actually just want to do a walk
around with the camera without any of this stuff on it, follow focus, nothing, I'm doing
everything by hand.
The RedRock follow focus is great, I've used it for the last five years.
The matte box is great when you're outside and cover light but it's more show than anything
else.
The Sony 90mm lens has been great, it's got auto focus, got continuous focus, using the
Sony lenses has definitely changed the game for me because instead of bringing a camcorder
to use, like a pro camcorder for a project I can use this now because it has that auto
focus.
I mean it's a little different but it definitely gives you the ability to do certain things
that I couldn't do before.
I would definitely go out and get that power grid again with the dual batteries, you can
use the old LP6 Canon batteries I believe for that.
The BeechTech DSL Pure is great because it's got XLR inputs, I think the other model is
just a 3.5 plus so it didn't work for me.
The wooden cage has been amazing, I mean I used it with this kit and without it's always
on and it's pretty light and it's great and you can kind of dumb it down by taking a
hand off.
So I think it's great.
Overall this camera is amazing.
I've been shooting with it now for the last two weeks, I've experimented with different
lenses and just trying to get different shots to 4K, 4G, crop, see how much noise I'm getting
and I'm going to talk a little bit more about the overheating issues and I'll probably be
in the description a little.
Thanks for watching.
