Okay, in this lesson we're going to look at filters. Now this is going to be quite a short
section because like editorial photography, when we're doing editorial video, we can't
really make many changes. We don't want to change the way anything really looks too
dramatically. So the same rules that apply to photography, well you can maybe darken
it or lighten it or change the contrast a little bit, maybe change the color if the
color correction is wrong, but other than that we don't change very much. Okay, to find
the filters we go on the left hand side and here I can see I've already opened them up.
Under video effects we're going to find all sorts of filters, very similar to the audio
effects that we saw earlier on. Now you can see here we can change color correction, we
can blur and sharpen, we can adjust a few other things as well, the image control. Okay,
so in terms of this particular piece what I want to do is two things. I want to look
at a very simple adjustment. I come into here for finding either auto color, an auto contrast
or auto levels. That very quickly gives it the best levels we can get and we can take
any one of these, let's just take the auto contrast, we can drag it onto our movie clip
here and then it will automatically take effect and we see on the movie clip under the effects
control where that effect has taken place. So here is the auto contrast here, it's automatically
come in. Okay, let me try and do a color change because that is probably the most complex
and the one that you're likely to need the most, particularly if you're using a Canon
camera. For some reason the Canon cameras don't seem to do a very good auto color and
therefore when you come to doing your final edit often you have to do a color correction.
Now the best way to do that obviously is under color correction here, we come down and there
is a thing called a three way color corrector. Let me drag that onto this movie clip that
I'm doing with here and it comes up right here. Over here on the left you can just choose
one of these pickers to choose something that should be white, gray or black and that will
automatically try and adjust the color for you. But coming down here we also have these
little wheels and if we move the wheels around, if you have a look on the right hand side
you'll see how the color is changing and I can do it quite easily manually to try and
get the color as best I can. If it's clearly off and this one actually isn't bad at all
then we'll be able to see it getting better as we move these around and there's three
different color wheels that we can play with. Okay, that's all it is for filters, we're
not going to say much more at this point. You can play around with them on the left and
if you're trying to do a scary movie or you're having a bit of fun, by all means do as you
would do in Photoshop and experiment away. But in terms of editorial photography, we
can do the lighting, we can brighten it, we can darken it, change the contrast and the
color correction but not much else. Okay, in the last lesson we're going to be looking
at how to export our final video.
