It's completely rethinking how we actually do and engage with people who are looking for
disability support and it's basically going to change every facet of the way that we do
disabilities in Australia and I suspect in many other parts of the world as well.
We wanted to facilitate a platform where the voices of people affected by a governmental
policy would have an echo, the possibility of being taken away.
I want and have the dream of creating in this university the Centre for Social Innovation
that would be a place that would personally and professionally form students to be
exchange agents. The idea is that social innovation would be transversal in the educational process
that is in the university, but also that you have this place where you can take advantage
of all the social initiatives that are there to start working as a exchange agent.
Higher up is basically completely reinventing the disability support process for helping
match people with disabilities with people who can help them and support them in their
daily living. They are creating a platform for matching, for employment and for engagement
which could actually be used in many, many other areas of social policy and human services,
not just in disability, maybe in aged care, maybe in education. So they are creating a
whole new asset, a cloud-based technology asset which will I think change dramatically
the way we think about how we do many of our traditional human services in the social
service space.
The innovation that they're pioneering is that they're creating this new venture without
any offices, any organizational structure at all. All of the work and the matching work
is being done on the web and it's all being done in the cloud and all of the work is essentially
being done. It's almost like a combination of PayPal meets eHarmony or one of the dating
services.
We've created a specialised telephone line that is free for people in Peru, in the
different parts of Peru, so that they can leave their stories and testimonies. Once
they pick up the phone, the system works very easily, they press 1 to leave a message,
they press 2 to listen to a message. Once they leave their testimonies, this testimonies
is moderated by us, it's transcribed, translated and taken to an online platform, where it
appears with the voice of the person and with subtitles, either in Spanish or in English,
so that these messages can be heard.
