Shelby's favorite attribute of mine? Physically, it's got to be the muscles.
Oh, okay, no, that can't be it. Shelby's favorite physical attribute of mine?
It's got to be the smile. No, no, no, no. Shelby's favorite physical attribute of mine must be my eyes.
I think Beth's favorite attribute of me would be, I don't know, my butt, but don't tell my mom.
I picked her up for our first date and right before I noticed her hair was her smile. She smiled at me and I knew I was in for a good ride. She was way out of my league 100%.
I love his hair. That's probably my favorite that I love and his smile. And he has beautiful eyes. I just can't pick one favorite thing.
Shelby and I met through a mutual friend. I had heard about her and asked my buddy about her and he got the okay to give me his number.
And so I called her up and I left her a voicemail. And I got the voicemail and it was just so formal and so funny that I was a little bit thrown off, but he was kind of just like the nicest guy.
She called back and we ended up going on our first date to Park City, Utah. Just went up about a 45-minute drive for our first date and conversation was great.
She really intrigued me. Something special about Shelby is that she's obviously beautiful, but she's just really smart. I was on my toes the whole time.
She had me stuttering, knocking over my glass and I went home and told my roommate I blew that one. I blew it, but she ended up giving me a call back.
The first kiss was after it took a few days.
Oh gosh. Not my best.
It was after like third, fourth date, I think. She had me waiting. She was just so out of my league. I didn't want to push it too fast at all.
But I was surprised that he hadn't kissed me yet, but I didn't see it coming at all.
I took her home at the end of a date and walked her to her door and I'll let her tell you the rest. I'm a little bit embarrassed.
He was like, is it okay if I give you a kiss goodnight? I was just dying because I always think it's so funny when guys ask and just kiss me.
I asked her if I could give her a kiss and she said, yeah. I gave her probably the quickest, gave her aunt a kiss you've ever seen.
And he just turned around and walked away and I was like, okay.
But then, you know, it worked.
So I was expecting the proposal to happen, but I didn't know exactly when.
And so all day she's at work. And while she was there, I had arranged with some of her friends to get her hair, her nails, her makeup all done.
Because the girl said like they need to practice at the salon. And so she was getting that done all day while I was setting up this gazebo.
And I had also seen a jar of coins at his house that said ring money and it was full.
Every single time I went over to his house and so I again just figured it was a few weeks away.
But it turns out that was all a trick that worked.
So I prepared this whole gazebo looking out over Orman Provo and it had a ravine down below.
And on this hillside, I put Mary Me, like in ripped up bedsheets and like flameless candles and this gazebo was all done up in roses and stuff.
And I was just dying because I'd been waiting. I was so hungry after working all day.
When I went and picked her up for dinner, she thought it was just going to be a normal dinner, but I came in a suit.
And she was a little bit frustrated with me maybe because I was a little bit late.
And he just said, you have 20 minutes to put a dress on and grab a coat and I'll be back.
And I was still a little bit bummed because he had taken so long to get ready and expected me to be ready in 20 minutes.
I just left. So I went and made sure everything was good at the gazebo.
Came back a little bit later and blindfolded her.
That's when it all hit me and I was like, oh my goodness, I can't believe you pulled this off without me knowing it.
And I was just so excited.
I drove around the neighborhood a good 10 times and then pulled up to this pathway to the gazebo.
Kept her blindfolded, walked her down and then took it off as she could see the gazebo out in front with the view and it was sunset.
There were candle lights that were lighting a pathway to this beautiful gazebo that he had set up with roses.
And then over on the hill, he had written Mary Kee in the little candle light.
And I was like, yeah, I want me and I loved her and she said, yeah.
Dustin, I can't tell you how excited I am.
I think you already know because I've told you a million times, but I just can't tell you enough.
I've told you so many times that you are the boy that I wrote about in Young Women's and your every quality I ever hoped for
and never dreamt of.
And I every day wake up just not even knowing how I got to be so lucky to have you forever.
And I just know we have so many fun years ahead of us.
And I just can't wait to have you by my side for the rest of my life and I love you so much.
Shelby, I've never been more excited for anything in my entire life than to marry you.
I'm marrying my best friend. I found Jack after a good search and lots of fun dating.
We were able to come together and I couldn't be more excited.
I feel like we've grown up different sides of the country, but we've both come here and it really has felt like fate.
Like I found my perfect teammate for life and no matter what comes, I'm very confident that we're going to be able to get through anything
and not just get through it, we're going to enjoy it and we're going to have a lot of fun.
The values that are most important to you, family and hard work and honesty are things that I've looked for in a woman forever
knowing that that's exactly what I want for my future wife and I just can't wait to marry you
just to be with you and to support you and just to be your best friend and teammate like I said forever.
So I love you.
