哦, well, after World War II
I was part of getting them introduced
to that powwow circle
by a ladies organization
in the Catholic faith here
known as the Little Flower
and they called it an Indian
they called it a Koskaji club
my niece was the president of that club
and they explained to them what the powwow was
because she had in mind
to celebrate St. Trisa
she's a big
got a recognition in the faith
so I went and I introduced that to them
and told them how
you could celebrate St. Trisa out there
so they took my word for it
and I had the MC it for them
and they got it going
and it's still there
I am Rose Mary Shaw
and I am director
of the Osage Nation Counseling Center
and we are
that is the organization that is sponsoring the powwow
this is Richard Luttrell
who is one of our elders
and he works in drug prevention
well the dancers you see out there
are all traditional osage dancers
men and women
and that's the clothing they've been wearing
for a number of years
this is the way they do it every year
when they have their regular dances
and what we're doing now
a powwow is different from a tribal dance
a tribal dance is called elonshka
and it's something that's held in June
and usually the two are separate
elonshka is one thing
and a powwow is something else
a powwow is more or less everybody joining in
and everybody having a good time
to osages never dance a powwow
and tell about those
60s maybe
yeah about 60 or 70
and then they started
dancing at powwows
they felt like they're close
were at these particular dances
and they want to be danced outside
and slowly you know things change
and now that is changing
and so we use that
that people
people love to dance
Indians love to dance
and love to hear that drum
and they love to get out there
and feel that feeling
that makes them feel good
and inside
and that's what we want
that's what we want
and we wanted to bring drug
and prevent
all kinds of prevention awareness
to their
to their consciousness
and we have a blue set up
free material on it
for people to go by and observe
we do
we have a treatment program
we have an intensive application
treatment program here
we just do the best we can
with the funding that we have
you know
but mainly it's
our main concern
is the osage people
young animals
