The UP Concert Chorus initially was formed in 1962 and the regional name was not Concert
Chorus but Mixed Chorus and during the time of the President of the University was still
Carlos P. Romulo, who was a very famous diplomat and then he became the President.
It's important to have different camaraderie among the students and he thought the choir
was the best to do that.
The students were chosen from different colleges from 1962 up to now and they are the audition,
they sing one English song, they sing one Tagalog song and then I test their musical
skills on the piano, how strong their voice is, how they can retain, how is their level
of tonal memory, intonation, pitch level, the ability to have independence or to sing
with another voice, good sense of rhythm, not necessarily reading music, not all Filipinos
read this music but they are musical because they have rhythm in their bodies and a good
sense of intonation and many are so talented with their voice and with all the students
from the different regions that come to UP, it was a very diverse choice from different,
not only colleges but all the regions of the Philippines.
Thank you so much.
And that we love in heaven is our God.
And that we love in heaven is our God.
And that we love in heaven is our God.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
The music is not only just to be performed on stage but has to be passed on to others.
And if it doesn't pass on to others, it will not be really the message of our kind of music will not really reach out to others.
And there is this love for me to share and the passion to teach and then the ability to do the best to perform and share our Philippine music to the world.
I think it's the only way we can bring to the world.
I think it's the best diplomatic way, really ambassadors of not only of good will but cultural ambassadors who we are through our music.
And believing in this passion has really brought us to really know the different cultures as well.
We also open up and the diversity and the beauty of learning other cultures incorporated to our system brings out unification, I think, more and understanding.
And it's the best though, I think, for peace as well.
Amen.

We would like to look nicely on stage visually,
not only the sound, which is the most important, of course, the priority.
But I am more concerned also that visually,
the senses are not only the hearing, the sight,
and to reach out to communicate has to use all the senses.
And therefore, I believe choral music is not only for hearing,
it has to be also seen, incorporated with the sound as well.
But this time, it was a challenge for me, music, a capella music, with movement.
So I call it coriocapella.
Chorus and then dash cor, C-H-O-R, dash E-O, for choreography.
And then pella, a capella.
So I coined these three words. Chorus, choreography, a capella.
So I try to incorporate this style of music and bring it to the world.
And I workshop this to other countries.
And it's amazing that it's really a new kind of choral art that has to be shared.
And I try this also to the youth in the Philippines.
And it was so appealing to me.
Chorus and then dash cor, C-H-O-R, dash E-O, for choreography.
Chorus and then dash cor, C-H-O-R, for choreography.
Chorus, choreography, a capella.
I mean, what is music if it cannot be shared?
Therefore, there must be somebody willing to share.
So that means you have to teach.
But what's the sense of teaching if nobody wants to learn it or wants to listen to it?
So music must have a listener and a receiver.
And what's the sense? Music will not exist.
Therefore, it will be silence. OK, music is silence and sound.
But if there's no one to appreciate it, what's the point?
So music must have a listener and a receiver.
Chorus and then dash cor, C-H-O-R, for choreography.
Chorus, choreography, a capella, for choreography.
Chorus, choreography, a capella, for choreography.
Chorus, choreography, a capella, for choreography.
Chorus, choreography, a capella, for choreography.
