Hi guys, come on in. Let me show you my house.
Hi, my name is Shelby Owensby and I'm applying to get onto the block. This is my apartment
in Durham.
Hi guys, how are you?
Tony and I have been together for three and a half years. We met through an online dating
service. We pretty much met for coffee and have not been apart since. Tony is an air
conditioner and refrigeration mechanic, so that's great because that means I'm never
cold at home. And he's also a very diverse trainee, so Tony, tell him what you've done
with me since we've been together.
We've put, this is our third kitchen. Third kitchen, we've done. We always do a flat pack
system. Always chop and change it a little bit, you know, around so it fits in better
because we've never got the normal, normal building.
Tony's very good at pulling walls out. When we pick the keys up for this place, for instance,
we picked them up on 24 November and on the very next day we came in and we pulled out
the two walls around the kitchen straight away. We spent four weeks doing the tiling
and putting it in the kitchen and then we moved in Christmas Eve last year.
Tony's been my teacher. I pretty much didn't do any of this. I would have liked to when
I was on my own, but I figured I wouldn't do it alone. But since we've been with Tony,
I now know how to tile walls. I know how to plaster, paint, use most of the electrical
tools. He's had to fight a bit for me to do that because I kept saying I'm not a trans
person and that's too heavy for me. That's too big. But we've managed and I'm pretty
proud of what we've done in the kitchen here. This is our third kitchen that I've put together
and done all the tiling for. So I'm pretty pleased with how this one's turned out.
It's brought up in the country. We've moved to the city. I've been renovating the houses
since I'm quite young. And we've done a lot of sailing. I've got a boat called Beyond
our Mages and we all have fun on that. We do a lot of ocean racing. We're off to Sydney
to the Sydney Hobart this year while the guys are very keen with that. And we hope to
have a good sail this year. We have done a fair bit of sailing. Since I've met Tony,
I've learnt how to sail, I've learnt how to renovate, I've learnt how to tile, paint,
cut, saw, drill, grind, everything basically. Alright then, let's have a look at the rest
of the place and have a look at the bathroom. Come through. This is our bathroom. We've
incorporated the same tiles as from winning the kitchen to bring it all together. And we
Tony had to basically rebuild or cut down completely the vanity basin. So he's done
an awesome job of that. We still need to do some tiling. We're pretty pleased with the
way our things are working out and we're just waiting on glass and do a final touch-up
and get this job done. We're really pleased with how this worked out, aren't we Doug?
The window was put in after we did the kitchen bench which meant we had a gap that we had
to fill in. Tony came up with the idea of using our floor tiles which matched really well
with our bench. But this is an absolute score to be able to go straight out to our
barbecue area in the kitchen. We've got these new windows put in in the kitchen here so
we can do our inside-outside living. We go straight with the by-corporate for a fair while
to get this through and we've got through and they've made the place just that fair
bit better. I love the fact that we've got this window in. We can go straight out to
the barbecue area when it's summertime and we had to wait for it but it was worth waiting
for and we go straight in.
