Every day of the week, young viewers have the unforgettable opportunity to see their
writing featured on television and the web.
During green screen adventures, we adapt stories and poems written by elementary school students
and bring them to life with the help of a green screen.
Released by WCIUTV in Chicago, the series has featured the work of more than 1,500 students
in 250 episodes.
Our goal is to empower each child to be his or her own best self, to write, to create,
to treat one another with respect.
Students develop creative characters and plots to express the realities of their lives.
How do we make a difference by empowering them to be the difference?
Children give voice to their frustrations.
Students share their aspirations, and it works.
I am known as a violent person, and when I heard the poem, I pictured myself still being
violent.
And I didn't like it.
We encourage an appreciation for others by being inclusive, performing stories bilingually
in Spanish and English, and in American Sign Language and Voice, the essence, respect,
for oneself, respect for each other, respect for the planet.
As our theme song says, it's all about writing, persuasive writing, expository how-to instructions,
and support.
We showcase their illustrations, taking art from page to screen.
We tap into students' passion for music, adapting their poetry into song.
The content reflects not only what we want to teach, but what children can teach each
other.
The moral of my story was, to never give up, no matter what happens, you always have something
to write about.
Your teachers tell you to write a story, there should be no excuse, you always should have
something to write about.
I love having you as a narrator, because the girl writes in her diary so much because
her brother's always annoyed her, until she has to write down her emotions.
I just want to say, look around the room and see what you know about it and then write
it.
Why don't you write a story or report about your favorite animal and send it to us at greensgreenadventures.tv.
Our website provides writing prompts, teacher resources, a place to view stories by other
children, and an easy way to submit student work.
We connect on a grassroots level and create opportunities for the community, orchestrating
annual vision screenings that result in free eye exams and much-needed glasses.
I can see the words on my book, I want to read, I can see my school work better.
