I come from a family that has no history whatsoever of playing any instrument but when
I was about 12 years old and I just saw Slash on TV getting up on the piano and he was just
doing this mind blowing solo I just knew I had to start playing guitar so I just kept
on playing and playing and playing and I never stopped. My name is Jonas Haagström I'm 31
years old from Grefthal in Sweden and I've been snowboarding for 22 years. Well the music
school it started when there were absolutely no private school there were some teachers
giving lessons at home but nothing organized. I had a friend of mine who was a music teacher
then we figured yeah well let's start a music school so I have to do emailing and phone calls
straight after snowboarding every day. I grew up in a small place called Grefthavallan and my
parents they were running a ski resort I could do pretty much what I wanted take a hike in the
mountains or go fishing or whatever. Yeah there's quite a lot of snow actually it's not very
common up here in Scandinavia to get that much snow in such a short time. The down part was that
we were just 12 people living there most of them were 60 plus but it was a cool place to go up
anywhere you could be outdoors all the time there was nothing to be afraid of except bears maybe.
I used to get home from school and then I could start to lift and I did that in this blue box
it's not even here anymore see start to lift there and just go after school. When we started
snowboarding basically there were no other snowboarders we were the first ones in our resort
and for us it was we had no like impressions from the rest of the world we have never seen
snowboarding on TV or anything of course we built small kickers and stuff but we never
seen like somebody riding a pipe or doing a 360 or whatever. So this is the absolutely first
snowboard picture ever of me. It must have been 1991 or 1992. All I can remember that we were
like a gang of snowboarders here that we all had nigh-deck your boards ordered the same jacket but
in different colors. The highback was rounded so you couldn't tweak at all so you had to like
tweak your body instead of tweaking your legs. Then we suddenly saw they started showing stuff
on Eurosport and so and then we saw people riding pipe and we saw that you can make 360s
and backflips and stuff and then we started doing that stuff as well. Well in February we're gonna
go to Japan, me and Mika Hast and we're gonna go visit our very good friend Takku which is one of
the most famous guides in Japan. The man you need to know when you go to Japan. As always if you
go to Japan you're hoping for tons and tons of snow. Good tree riding and hiking around to the
stuff that normal people don't get to without knowing someone.
