Hi, I'm Jackie Danger. I'm doing a mural here at the Sandy Hut. This is my first big mural
job in Portland. I've been a local artist for four and a half years, and this is the
final wall. There's four more over by the front door, and it's right here on Sandy
and 14th. I love Portland. My art is influenced a lot from skateboarding,
snowboarding, growing up in the Northwest, riding on my bike around, and if you look
at my pieces you'll see a lot of those themes in the pieces and influences from
the pieces. I've been having art shows here for four and a half years this last
summer. I had one with two of my girlfriends at Backspace in August, and
we've got another one coming up at Backspace in May. It's going to be a
skateboarders art show first Thursday in May, about 10 different people, so it'll
be fun. The direction that I'm trying to go with my art, I love doing murals. I'd
like to do more of those. I always want to go bigger, and I also love doing
graphics. I've done some t-shirt graphics. I'm trying to work my way into doing
skateboard and snowboard graphics, and I just love living around here. This is a
great place for it. The art scene is really good. Around here there's a lot
of other people painting and a lot of influences. It's a nice place to be, and
if you want to come over here I'll show you my other murals. Do you want to come
with me? So my murals over at the front door are there's four panels. I've got
one of the bridges, all the bridges in Portland. The next one over is a inlet
from the people that come to the bar, so there's a bunch of different creatures.
There's a motorcycle gang, the Flying 15 that's represented in there, and then
the next mural over is a bunch of animals, party animals drinking, and one over
from that is just a shot from the Northwest with Mount Hood and Bigfoot
skating down the mountain on his way to the sandy hut to come get a beer. So I
painted everything that I thought would represent the area and that the
customers would like to see at the bar that they drink at. It was a really fun
job. I had a lot of creative control, and the owner John's been really great with
letting me have creative power. So it's been a really fun project, and it's my
first big project like this. So thanks for coming, try to check it out. Also check
out my art at Burnside. I just did some art down there for the 20th anniversary
of the skate park. There's two murals, one of an octopus lady and one of a
tattooed lady. So if you're down there having a skate, hopefully you see my art,
and we'll see you at the next show.
