I limit a ball deep in the earth and see nothing but the clouds pass by.
They take such fine shapes against the blue on a white and puffy day.
Dragons and teddy bears likes.
They are nothing but gentle wind these days.
When we're composing these shapes, nothing but the wind and shapes.
Nothing but a beautiful day.
A beautiful day into night.
The stars so clear, diamond eyes staring back at me.
Velvet and milk beyond.
So, so far away, I can't imagine being there.
So, I am here.
Living in a bowl out here.
I built the cabin about 19 years ago.
That was at 92.
Before I started building the cabin, I had built the garage a little off in the back.
I stayed there for about two years while I was building the cabin.
And then once I got the cabin in, I could move in and I moved in.
I've worked on the insides ever since.
As far as living here, I like all seasons.
It's just like the variety.
The most difficult, obviously, would be winter.
I live up on a hill, so that means I've got to go in and up the hill
a quarter mile into the woods before we get to the cabin.
The only way I can get up there is with a tractor that I usually park at the bottom of it.
The garage is kind of how I work it from winter.
That's about the most difficult tire I have.
Otherwise, the rest of the seasons are really nice.
We went on a trip one time, I think, back when it was about 9 or 10.
We went down to Florida and we took a skyline drive in Virginia.
I think it was the skyline of the Blue Ridge Drive.
And we had stopped at a lookout.
And I remember looking out and down, way down below was a little tiny pine,
but actually it was big, but it just looked tiny from way up in the mountains.
I saw a little cabin down there, and I said, boy, I'd sure like to be in that.
So that's kind of what inspired me.
When I looked down the mountain to see that, it impressed me.
I had that back in my head all that time.
And we should do something like this.
He is not a big problem.
The only time it's getting heated to the max is when it gets like 20 below and the wind's blowing.
That's when you really got crank the wood stove up.
Other than that, it's quite comfy.
We got low overhead here.
I don't need to make a whole lot of money to keep it up for upkeep.
You do what you do.
There's jobs out there, you're going to take them to love.
I went through a number of different jobs before I decided to work for myself.
That's the best way I'm going to manage stuff is to do it in my own business.
So I just eventually fell through on that and been doing it for the past 20 years.
You know, people think I live a hermit's life type of deal.
It's really not that.
People worry about solitude, people worry about solitude, worry about loneliness and things like that.
If you're comfortable with yourself, then you're in good company.
I try to maintain a garden burn this season.
Then I hunt, so I like to get at least a deer here, if not more depending.
That usually lasts me for the whole year.
Mainly for game, I usually use a long rifle, either shotgun or.22.
But for enjoyment, I like to hunt with a hawk.
You don't actually get a bunch of game.
You can't feed yourself with one, but I enjoy the hunting with them.
I enjoy the flights, I enjoy the chase.
I enjoy the acrobatics of the rabbits and the hawks in the squirrels being pursued, trying to escape.
A hawk may, if they're lucky, get one out of seven times, but mainly they don't.
That's not what I'm in for, I'm in for the flight and the beauty of watching the hawks and the quarry being chased.
One day I was walking up the drive and I stepped and I heard a squeak and there was nothing underneath.
I could see that I stepped down, but I felt something.
I pushed my foot down and whatever it was, I killed it and the thing just appeared.
It was a dead squirrel.
Then one day I was working in a garage and something jumped on my damn shoulder.
It kind of spoke to me and I didn't see anything.
Then I saw tools moving around on the bench, so I grabbed a pipe and I watched where things were moving around.
I whacked down to see what the hell it was and all of a sudden another squirrel appeared.
I got invisible squirrels, so I decided I'm going to start every time I see something.
I got an indication that something's not right and is doing funny things, so I'm going to try to kill it.
When I do, I want to stick the feet up on my garage.
Pretty much I got a few of them.
It got to the point where I had to put a sign up in front of the garage to be aware of the attack squirrels
because they were getting vicious after a while when I started attacking up.
I got an indication that something's not right, so I got a sign up and I watched where things were moving around.
I went to the garage and something jumped on my damn shoulder.
I got an indication that something's not right, so I grabbed a pipe and I watched where things were moving around.
It kind of spoke to me and I didn't see anything.
Maybe a thousand years from now, if I were to live that long, if I get bored or something,
I don't know, but I haven't been, you know, kind of like living, you know, and the more
time you live, the more you see, the more things come together, because you, things
you noticed earlier, that you encounter later, kind of come together, and it's nice to watch
that process, and you just, you would like to see, you know, 300 years down the road,
I'd like to see this particular tree, that's how big it is now, you know, things like that.
It would be nice to be around for that, but nobody's come back and told me different,
so I'm just going to wait and see.
I live in a ball, deep in the earth, and see nothing but the clouds pass by.
It takes such fine shapes against the blue, on a white and puffy day, dragons and teddy
bears likes, hear nothing but gentle wind these days, when composing these shapes, nothing
but the wind and shapes, nothing but a beautiful day, a beautiful day, and tonight, the stars
so clear, diamond eyes staring back at me, velvet and milk beyond, so, so far away, I
can't imagine being there, so I am here, living in a ball, out there.
I live in a ball, deep in the earth, and see nothing but the clouds pass by.
You
