Welcome to the Fly Fishing Podcast. I'm going to show you how to tie a fly called Zimmer.
It's secret really is it spends itself just under the sea for the surface film of the
water and to do that I'm going to use just a touch of foam using a TMC hook 010 size 18.
You can tie it from 14s up to size 22s to 23s small as you want to go but make
sure you've got a decent hook to do that on. Now part of the secret of this fly
is you want to go down out there and catch in a bit of foam. I don't care how
messy this is at this stage just want to make sure it's caught in. I'm going to
produce a little bubble on the top like so. You can tie this in any color. I found
this tan and the black are very very effective. You can redouble if you want
to redouble. I tend to want to leave it fairly small and small like that. If you
use a light color foam you are going to be able to change that color with a pen if
you want to. That's nearly the fly done quite honestly. I'm using hairs fur not
hairs here but hairs fur. I'm using the gray hairs to make the tail. This fly is
a very quick tie, very very effective and we just dub that on like so. It might be
quite getting a bit of the under fur into the stomach. It might be quite
chunky this because it does thin down. Wrap it tight into the body. Then I'm going to do a couple of
things here. This is mainly grayed hair which I'm putting on. I'm going to take
that round the top of the bubble like that, underneath, around the front, around again.
It gives almost a little bit of a a hackle. I'm just going to whack a bit more, get underneath,
around. I'm just going to quickly whip finish that. As always my free little
hitch is just to finish off. I found this fly extremely effective. It just sits
underneath the surface of water. I came up with it really as an answer to some
difficult trout I've been fishing for a long time. It was very much about that
meniscus surface film interface and where the fly actually sat. This actually sits
in the film very nicely and just fishes along. A nice dread drift. You might want
to give a little bit of touch every now and again. Just tweak it along. That is
basically the fly to be fishing when you find something which is really really
difficult to catch. Change the body colours. Tighten just this particular
fur. We can tie it in, I think like rabbits foot. Just give it a bit more
buoyancy but make sure the body is going to be sitting down. If you really
want to you can just grease the top of the ball and that sometimes helps as
well. Anyway tight lines. Hope to see you again very very soon.
