This is Steve's back up just in case something goes wrong with the main bike.
Nice skinny mud tyres so good in case it pisses down.
Steve did extremely well mostly just riding at rigid single speed last year.
Not a very good place in this year.
So this year he wanted to see how much more difference it could make riding with some gears and suspension.
He had some even bigger results this year so it definitely helps.
So there are occasions maybe like today around here if it gets muddy it can actually be quicker on a single speed.
This is my third 12 hour every time I think what the hell am I doing?
But then I get a good result and I'm like a week later or two weeks later I forget how painful they might be.
I love bikes and remakes so it's those two reasons why I ride these bikes.
But actually if we weren't mates I'd still like to ride them because I think they're awesome bikes.
Second last year that was really tough actually I felt so tired so hopefully I won't be so bad this year.
But he knows what we'll have in over 12 hours so let's get started hopefully I'll be doing well.
The race has begun. We may not be riding but we're with you in spirit getting boomers the same as you.
It's like slot car racing. You get in stuck in that groove in your pedal and it just kind of takes you along.
He keeps going and going and going and thinking we must be nearly finished and then he's assigned four more miles to go.
Yeah you know it's funny.
Yeah mechanical failure.
The twisty stuff would be really good in the dry but because it's so wet it's just slow and kind of horrible.
So I've been a bit more competitive I might have kept going but it seems I'm probably somewhere in the middle.
I'm just like we're done. Had enough.
We could have kept riding if it was rideable but in the end it was as much running as it was riding so it was just no fun at all.
It's such a contrast to last year. It's just dust everywhere wasn't it last year.
I feel rubbish now.
You look alright.
I don't feel too good but yeah.
And in first place the magnificent nine laps and terrible conditions. Steve Whipp!
He did two more laps and we managed as a team. In fact he was in front of us the whole way.
He hasn't done a lot of serious racing until the past two or three years.
Late bloomer.
You
