Data from Amphipod project, mesocosm experiments

first version: 15.11.2018
latest update: 26.04.2021

Columns:

Tank ID Individual tank number (is written on the actual tank)
	Tank Name Individual tank name
System Can be either a closed tray system stored in racks or a flow through system
Status Indicates if the tank is still active or whether it was removed
Origin Stream where the amphipods were sampled initially
Researcher Who is/was responsible for the tank
Experiment specifying the type of experiment or the aim of the experiment
Treatment Gives the treatment that was applied to a tank. Experiment specific.
No of ind start How many individuals of a species were originally present in the tank?
Date start When was the tank set up?
Alder leaves+ Date (and amount) of Alder leafs added during the course of the experiment if tracked
Beech leaves+ Date (and amount) of Beech leafs added during the course of the experiment if tracked
Protein+ Indicates if or not protein supplement was constituted to the specific tank during the experiment
Count No How many times was the same tank recounted during the experiment? Count number 0 indicates starting population density
Counting date Gives the date when the tank was recounted on
Adults Amount of amphipods found within the tank considered to be adult which was usually assessed visually by separating
size cohorts. Unclear individuals were assigned to juvenile class.
Juveniles Amount of amphipods found within the tank considered to be juveniles which was usually assessed visually by separating
size cohorts. Juveniles were considered to mature as soon as the first precopulating pair or the first pregnant female
could be detected or if treshold size was clearly reached
Total Total amount of adults and juveniles together found to be alive in the tank
Notes Remarks regarding observations relevant for the population density and structure for example pregnant females or pecopulating pairs

Color use:

gray startin conditions (count number 0)
red all amphipods within a specific tank dead
orange only a low number of amphipods left in the tank
green new juveniles were detected for the first time within a specific tank
