Leland Bruce "Lee" Sklar , né le 28 mai 1947 bassiste américain ayant collaboré avec un nombre important d'artistes internationaux. Durant sa carrière il a contribué à plus de 2 000 albums en tant que musicien de studio .
Né dans le Wisconsin , Sklar emménage en Californie du Sud dans ses premières années. Il commence le piano à l'âge de cinq ans et s'y perfectionne jusqu'à l'adolescence, avant de commencer à apprendre la basse .
Déterminé à faire de la musique son métier, il entreprend des études musicales à l'Université d'État de Californie à Northridge . Il y rencontre James Taylor , qui l'invite à jouer avec lui et à participer à des enregistrements.
C'est à la fin des années 1960 que la carrière de Sklar débute. Dans les années 1970 , il entre en contact et travaille avec des musiciens tels que le batteur Russ Kunkel , le guitariste Danny Kortchmar et le claviériste Craig Doerge avec lesquels il forme un groupe, The Section .
Il a, depuis, participé à de très nombreux enregistrements d'albums en studio avec des artistes comme Era , Rita Coolidge , Reba McEntire , Yumi Matsutoya , Suzy Bogguss, Michel Polnareff , Véronique Sanson , France Gall , Eddy Mitchell , Clint Black , Carole Bayer Sager , Kim Carnes , David Cassidy , Phil Collins , Billy Cobham etc. Il a, par ailleurs, joué avec des groupes comme The Doors , America .
Il a joué avec le groupe Barefoot Servants, composé de Ben Schultz (guitare, mandoline et guitare slide), Jon Butcher (chant et guitares) et Ray Brinker (batterie et percussions).
Sklar a d'ailleurs été le bassiste du groupe Toto , remplaçant momentanément Mike Porcaro , malade. Il a été en tournée avec le groupe jusqu'à fin 2007 . Il a participé au concert du Zénith de Paris en mars 2007 , où a été enregistré le quatrième album live du groupe, Falling in Between Live David Hungate ).
Il a également accompagné le groupe Era, lors de leur concert à Moscou les 12 et 13 juin 2012 .
Il est reconnaissable à sa grande barbe blanche et est surnommé « Father Time[ 1]
