* Anarchias longicaudis (Peter, 1877)—Bluntnose moray
Recorded from Madeira as Anarchias euryurus (Lea, 1913). Taxonomic decision of Böhlke et al. (1989: 117, 120).
* Enchelycore anatina (Lowe, 1838)—Fangtooth moray
* Gymnothorax bacalladoi Böhlke & Brito, 1987 —Bacallado's moray
Recorded from Madeira by Brito et al. (2002: 97).
* Gymnothorax maderensis (Johnson, 1862)—Sharktooth moray
* Gymnothorax polygonius Poey, 1875 —Polygon moray
* Gymnothorax unicolor (Delaroche, 1809)—Brown moray
The specimen USNM 94531 (1, Madeira), originally identified as Gymnothorax afer Bloch, 1795 was re-identified as G. unicolor by D. Smith (pers. comm. 22 Sept. 2006); thus there is no record of G. a f e r for Madeira.
* Gymnothorax vicinus (Castlenau, 1855)—Purplemouth moray
Recorded by Smith & Böhlke in Quéro et al. (1990: 143-144). The only specimen in the MMF (MMF 36398) was caught in 150 m depth. We do not consider this as a coastal species at Madeira.
* Muraena augusti (Kaup, 1856)
Several authors like Nunes (1974: 157), Wirtz (1994: 30) and Brito et al. (2002: 98) list Muraena augusti from Madeira. Eschmeyer (2004) finds the latest taxonomic decision in a revision by Smith & Böhlke (1990: 145) who conclude it is a synonym of M. helena. However, Jiménez et al (2007) have confirmed the specific identity of M. augusti using morphological and genetic methods.
* Muraena helena Linnaeus, 1758 —Mediterranean moray
