Lectotype (NHM, here validated): card-mounted, genitalia mounted on glass slide pinned together with the specimen, “LECTO- \ TYPE ” [round label with blue border], “1384.” [in Broun’s hand], “ Otago “, “ New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun Coll. \ Brit. Mus. \ 1922-482.”, “ Cyphon \ acerbus ” [in Broun’s hand], “ Lectotype ♂ \ Cyphon acerbus \ Broun \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand].
Remarks. Broun examined two specimens from Upper Taieri, received from Hutton (Broun 1883).

Remarks. A single specimen described as Cyphon nitidus was collected from Lindis Pass, Otago, and received from Hutton (Broun 1883).
